To another point of shark behavior, they are much like cats. Inherently curious. They have a much more keen sense of smell (becasue water, duh), and humans do not smell or taste good. Shark bites rarely ever occur and most are from accidental brushes from the teeth, confusion from a surf board, abnormally territorial shark or an injured/sickly hungry shark.
Sharks are very fearful and skiddish creatures. The sound of your respirator/BCU alone usually will scare them off. In the event that you are out in a territory where shark is not used to humans, they are curious, will swim by you a few times to check you out, even boop you with their noise and then swim away. It's kinda cute.
The best thing to do when you see a shark is not to panic, just observe and maybe make a noise if he/she decides to get too close for your comfort.
The chance of you getting bitten by a shark is lower than you getting struck by lighting when you surface. You even have a much higher chance of getting run over by another boat, depending on where you are diving.
