what about shooting a bear in self defense? is that wrong? would you let a bear eat you? invading another species territory occurs all the time in nature, just look at the humbolt squid, it originally only inhabited deep waters around baja california, now it's all the way up to southern alaska. and is it cowardly to want a gun to protect your family from potential murderers and rapists? slim odds yes, but i'd rather be prepared when i don't need to be then unprepared when shit hits the fan

bull sharks have a more squared off nose like the tiger shark, and a generally shorter, more stout body. look at this vid closely, notice the pointed nose. also check out part 2 for an underwater viewpoint, it is most definitely a great white.

such a graceful animal, I like how he/she is just swimming calmly, sharks don't eat or attack people on purpose, they just mistake us for their prey depending on how your swimming or moving, and if your blood may get into the water, when great whites strike, they go blind for a amount of time, hopefully this shark gets a tasty meal (not a human of course*

Not land locked lakes, although if they are connected to the sea via a river or the off chance a Bull Shark entered a lake during a flood it is possible. The Bull Shark is the only species of shark that can survive in fresh water. They have been found hundreds of miles up the Mississippi River and even into the Missouri River. I once floated down the Missouri River from South Dakota to Missouri and was very happy to not encounter a Bull shark.
Herbin' Avenger

Herbin' Avenger

Bull Sharks, as you know, can travel hundreds of miles up rivers. Saltys as well. This is a Great White though, and in a salt water pond, it wouldn't live long in a fresh water.

They can survive in captivity but you have to catch them young and let them go ounce they reach a certain size because they start to lose their natural instincts and cant really live in captivity. If the shark is in a pond, then it can't get out. Sharks have very long migrations and whenever they are denied the open ocean they die unless they are still an adolescent.

sorry, I was there. This is a great white. If you were a "shark biologist" you would probably know about the first white sharks to be found in the Atlantic here in Chatham, Cape Cod and you would most likely spell "prey" correctly. Also, the sandbar shark is not found everywhere in the world
Lorna H
Lorna H - 10 years ago
You are wrong & I will correct you. It IS a great white as you can see by the white underbelly & snout shape. It's not uncommon for sharks to travel many, many miles from the ocean upstream into lakes, rivers, etc. Also, this shark is not in captivity-- whatever gave you that idea? (I'm a fish biologist)

You can identify a GW by looking at its nose and mouth, its unique, in fact they look like a granny with no teeth, you know when the jaw goes back lol Its ironic, you film a shark, tell them what it is and his lot call it radio controlled, not a great white because its in captivity, a bull shark, it was a clone sent by the illuminate to eat unsuspecting swimming children, a person in a suit. Its got that bad these days that they wont believe their own eyes, because of HAARP and holographic UFO's

Who the fuck said its in captivity? It says right there in the title that its in a salt pond in massachussets. I'm pretty sure this guy doesn't own a fucking pond and decided to put a great white in it. Like seriously bro? But anyways, yes thet can survive in captivity, and there is only one aquarium in the world that has one, and thats the monteray bay aquarium in California. The reason it can survive, is because, its tank is in the ocean, on the side of the aquarium.

It is definitely real. The shark was carried into the salt pond during an extreme high tide in stormy weather. She could not figure out how to escape, and eventually she had to be guided out! Re: fresh water, you've got the wrong shark. Lake Nicaragua sharks, Zambezi sharks, etc- all bull sharks. They can happily go back and forth from salt to fresh water, or stay in either one.

Mars Dreau - 11 years ago
Well I am a marine biologist/ ichthyologists that studies chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish) aka shark biologist. That sir is no Great White. Lagoon depth and temperature are safe feeding and "nesting" territory for inshore sharks such as bull or sandbar, which can be found all over the world. The body shape of the long and narrow nose shown in this video indicates its a hydrodynamic hunter that is built for speed to catch its pray. That eliminates the bull shark since it uses bump and bite

It's not remote controlled, you dolt! How is it moving/acting that makes you think it's an RC shark?! Real sharks swim exactly like that, very smooth. That's why they're a successful predator & haven't changed for millions of years. They glide effortlessly, barely making a stir, that's how they sneak up on their prey. You've been watching too much Mythbusters or something. 9___9
xeokym
xeokym - 11 years ago
I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of all the people claiming this is fake have never even SEEN a great white shark (or hell, any shark) for real in their lives. Great white sharks are all up & down the east coast & if there is an entrance to a salt water lagoon from the ocean (which usually there is, hence the reason it's not fresh water) it's absolutely possible, though not common, for sharks to swim in. Great whites can EASILY swim in 3' of water, shallow water does not bother them in the least.

We were talking at work about the sharks tracked online. I mentioned the big white who hung out for a long time in Ocracoke. I have a good friend who was stationed where this happened (woods hole). Mass is prime white shark country and this fish entered a small salt pond chasing bait. For what it's worth this is absolutely real. check out Mass DNR report;google mass salt pond shark 2004.

Great white sharks HAVE occasionally swum up rivers, although not very often. In 1915 three of them were caught in a river in New Jersey (near Sandy Hook) following a rash of fatal shark attacks along the Jersey shore. None of the sharks caught were found to have killed and eaten people, but nonetheless it proves great whites DO sometimes swim up rivers.

I don't want to be rude and tell you your wrong. But, if a great white shark was to go into a river it would have a panic attack and go crazy. Great whites can't be in small places. That's why you don't see them in rivers or aquarims. Bull sharks are commonly mistaken for great Whites. And its okay if its not. It's still amazing footage of a beautiful footage or a shark. And one more thing about the shark. Its colors are off. A great white has a greyish tint. This one has a brownish tint.

For all you experts who are bagging this vid, it's a great white, not a bull shark, it's in a shallow pond, not brackish, whatever that is? In Australia we get great whites in shallow estuaries and sometimes extremely close to shore. This is definitely possible.

Bull sharks are known for being found in freshwater, not whites. Back in 1916, 4 people were killed in a river 16 kilometers away from the ocean. It was a bullshark. Google "mad shark of new jeresey"

I think the reason why people are saying it's a bull shark is because the uploader said that it was in a "salt pond". That's another name for a lagoon, I've never heard a lagoon called a salt pond before though.

Im pretty sure this is a great white shark and not a bullshark. a bullshark has shorter and more round nose and a great white has the opposite.

Your facts are exactly that, facts, but irrelevant. This shark is not in captivity and this is not fresh water. Salt pond is in the title. I used to provide all the info in the description with a link to the source, with a full explanation, but people still didn't get it. Now there is a link in the desc. to part 2. that shows more of the shark.

check out sharks-ocearch.verite.com. Ping most recent sharks and got back a a month on tracking activity. check out the path the great white took on the east coast of the US. It went into the harbor of Charleston, SC and up a river.

2 facts about sharks: 1. great white sharks cant be kept in captivity and no one knows how, they just suddenly die. 2. bull sharks can go into fresh water but that water has to be connected to the ocean.

I believe it is possible. In fact, I think there is some video evidence of a shark in a salt pond or a coastal estuary. or what ever you want to call it, but yeah, I think I remember seeing that video. I'm going to try to remember where i saw that and get back to you. Hang tight.

BonuxCouleur

It is not that surprising, most shark especially female during gestation would find a quieter spot than the high sea to deliver their pups, hunt for fish and so on. Higher pollution and noise can also be the cause of attraction for these sharks.
BonuxCouleur
BonuxCouleur - 11 years ago
Bull sharks don't have a pointy nose, they have a much rounder back, and the shape of the fin is also different. This is a white pointer, no doubt.

Yeah i agree, there's been so many fake and unbelievable videos out there that people automatically get suspicious - and that's fine, but suspicion needs to find it's conclusion and I've concluded that, that is a real great white shark there based on it's white underbelly, the shape of it's head and it's dorsal fin and it's probably a baby passing through out of curiosity or lookin for food, i dunno - im no shark expert but i did an assignment in school on whitey's lol.

Bull sharks are known for swimming up rivers, and they are the only species that can adapt to survive in fresh water. They have been found living in lakes, although that is rare. It is actually most likely that this is a Bull shark.

it was shallow, and that was the problem the shark had, because it was so shallow, the shark couldn't find its way out, and was there for two weeks. this happened in 04. marine fisheries fonally kept spraying it with water from a boat to guide it out.

Shark-tailed catfish obviously. You can tell by the generally sharky look of the thing and the fact it is agile as a cat. Not to mention it was in a shallow pond, it will feed from the bottom and occaisonally steal milk and cookies fromo passing boats.
