SHARK ATTACK - One of the rare shark attack video caught on tape. When the fish resurfaced, two of Boswell's colleagues in a skiff grabbed her arms while another beat the shark with a stick. Boswell felt her left leg pop. "I thought it was my hip dislocating," she said. Only when the crew pulled her up into the boat did she look down and realize that her leg now ended at midthigh. The shark then headed for another person dangling in the water from a ladder, but shots fired by crewmen on the ship evidently drove it away. We haven't explored the entire ocean in that there are some uncharted areas and the deepest reaches to be discovered. HOWEVER
The bigger the animal the more it requires to eat. If megalodons still existed then we would have definatey at LEAST found evidence of it simply because they are so huge.
They would also have to exist in considerable numbers at least 100 to ensure a good gene pool and even then they would be contesting for food (no organism big enough and abundant enough to sustain it)

There are these things we sell all over down here called "BOOM STICKS" AKA Shotgun shell at the end of fortified pols that you jab into sharks or gators to KILL them.

Nobody can out swim a shark as most can swim at between 25 to 35 miles per hour and swimming away alerts the shark to chase.

If we were a true source of food for them, attacks would happen much more frequently, than what they do. More people die from drowning, and boat or water sports related accidents than they do from shark attacks.

I've seen divers get "friendly" with certain great whites, and they let the diver ride on their fin. It's amazing.
So you are right about shark attacks. Mostly it's mistaken identity, and when they do attack, they just nibble on you, and find out that you re not a nice, juicy and fat seal, but a rather skinny human being with too much bones and no flavor...
Firstly, I used to live in Perth off the coast of Western Australia. I spent years swimming, snorkelling and diving there. There is a huge population of Great Whites in the surrounding waters as well as many other species.
They come there to breed, give birth to their young and feed off the large populations of seals in the same waters.
They don't come there for us.
In fact, if you ask any local who surfs or engages in any water activity. Most people will tell you that they have seen or been in close proximity to a Great White at some point.
The difference is, is that people don't run around panicking over it. Great White Sharks are a common inhabitant off the local coastal areas. People simply accept them as part of the wildlife that co-exist with the local population.
I spent years engaging in water activities, surrounded by a large population of Great Whites. Even spotted a few in my time living in Perth.
But I'm still here, still alive and in 1 piece.
Yes, there have been some attacks. But considering the number of sharks and people that co-exist in the same waters. They are very few and far between.
Living in Perth has certainly demonstrated to me, that the Great Whites in our area were far more interested in seals, than they ever were in the local population.
So forget being "spoon fed" anything.
I spent years of my life sharing the same waters with Great White Sharks. It was the sharks themselves that proved this to me.

The amount of sharks and people that co-exist in the same waters, definately demonstrates that sharks stick to their natural diet the vast majority of the time.
Sharks also bite in order to investigate or determine what something is. In many cases, a person may cop a bite and nothing more.
I can guarantee you, that at some point you or someone else has been out swimming. Had a shark in the same area or bypassed you completely and you've not even noticed.

Actually, very rarely do we have recorded shark attacks annually. There is almost always a few years in between any recorded shark attack/s.
Yes, of course they do and have happened, but considering we have sharks surrounding our entire coastline, and in our estuaries and river systems. The amount of shark attacks are far and few between. And water sports and activities over here are huge.
We have Great Whites, Bull Sharks and Tiger Sharks, as well as many other species.
Maybe we should start having nightmares about terrifying, giant toasters coming after us.

1) if you can, swim calmly and smoothly back to land
2) don't swim alone,
4) try not to panic and thrash around it agrivates them
5) if you ARE attacked hit them with any weapons you can get hold of hitting them in the nose, eyes, and gills
