Advise all who have no fear of sharks to swim with Great Whites.
Encourage them to do this as often as possible and bring the whole family along.
Big Blues a mammoth great white , no doubt about it but I think her length has been oversold. Skomals own documentation at the time she was tagged and named prove it. They must've gotten lasers on her at some point cuz she's listed as 5.1m in Nov.2013. She may have added a few feet in the last 3 years but not enough to break 20ft. They just don't grow that fast as they age.
The shark looks fine during the Kintner attack, it looks fine during the 'pond' scene, it looks fine swimming around the boat, it looks fine during the chumming scene, it looks fine during the cage attack. I agree that when the head is up out of the water it looks fake, but that's just a few short scenes and by then we are already hooked by the story.
Ron and Valerie Taylor were employed in early 1974 to get real footage of a great white shark. However they told Spielberg they would have next to no chance of coming across a 20 footer or more so they had to get a tiny man to scale up the shark. They sharks where they went were usually 12 to 14 ft. Then the sharks never did what they were supposed to do in the script (attack the cage with the small man in it) and they only got the scene they did via accident when the shark got entangled in the cage lines and went nuts trying to free itself. That wasn't planned.
Bottom line is that it was impossible to find and then film such a huge shark and then have it do what they wanted it to do on camera.
The mechanical shark was the only option and for the most part I still think it works.
Bare in mind that it was only 4 years prior to Jaws that the first proper underwater footage of great whites was taken. Filming great white sharks was still in it's infancy in 1974.
Still looks more real than CGI crap, which NEVER really looks like it's actually there, because it isn't.
"25...."
Thank you for showing it up close.

Are you King Kong?
i'm 32 feet and i'm not even a shark
So no source? I gave you a Smithsonian website and you gave me nothing. Great, should totally believe you!
Can we get a reliable source that supports those "facts"?
Male great whites are actually smaller than females so your wrong about that to start. Also a simple google search and you'll see that the average length is 15 feet for a female. And about 12 feet for males.

Like I said, whales are mammals, like dolphins. But whale sharks are fish, like sharks, manta rays, and salmon.
They mate differently compared to mammals, and internally they're different.
I believe whale sharks are named whales are because of their sheer size, and like you said, plankton feeding abilities.

Your job is to inform people in an unbiased fashion, and to do so correctly. That's a little thing called journalism, I understand if you're unfamiliar with the concept. Do your jobs right or don't do it at all.
A cliff is terrifying if you nearly fall off it
Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again. :D

Sharks are just as deserving of our protection as any other wild animal, kudos to anyone educating people about them.
Maybe it was just the sound of her hitting the cage.

Kudos to the cage man brave enough to protect her from having a pectoral ripped by the sharp corners of that cage.
