For more, visit http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/shark-week/#mkcpgn=ytdsc1 | Tyrannosaurus rex is widely considered the king of the apex predators, but it wouldn't have had a chance against the mighty Megalodon. "Sharkzilla" is part of the Shark Week 2012 lineup.
"It ruled the seas for 25 million years."

First, Dunkleosteus wasn't that strong and big
Basilosaurus was extremely weak compared to Megalodon
Mosasaurus isn't as big as he appears in Jurassic World
Livyatan Melvillei Yes, probably the only one that is actually a threat to the Megalodon, i say its a 50/50 chance
Humans... APEX PREDATOR not MOST DANGEROUS CREATURES.

P.S. I'm fucking joking mate
Eh, no.
Yep you right

T-rex

-weight:5-7 Tonnes.
Great White Shark
-Length:6 MeterLong.
-Weight:2.2 Tonnes.
I believe that, but did it look like a giant great white or did it look like a whale with teeth? I always wondered what it physically looked like because they always seem to depict them as giant great whites.

get over it
You have no idea of the difference between meters and feet.
Anyways, you are wrong here.
Megalodons are 60 ft (18m), Blue whales are estimate to be 98 ft (30m), even the largest marine reptile (Shastasaurus) can't even beat that size in 69 ft (21m)
enough internet for today.
Orca is currently the apex predator of the ocean, incredibly intelligent, hunt in pods, very strong, big bodies...
an Orca can grow to 30+ feet, couple that with 10+ others and you have a team that could take down a megalodon shark... a 50+ foot shark wouldn't be as agile as the Orca is. Nor do I believe it would have the intelligence the Orca does. Plus they didn't hunt in packs (assuming because no other sharks do). A sneak attack would work in the Megalodons favor, but being pursued by an Orca pod... it would stand 0 chance.
bone
I find it plausible to think that these sharks can go much deeper than the whale. Since at a certain point, any living being would be crushed to death.
It is possible that there are creatures out there that can go very deep into the ocean due to a survival mechanism on their body, but those are the type of creatures that haven't been discovered yet.
The seas became shallower, some marine mammals like whales also became smaller, much of Megalodons prey disappeared during the course of millions of years, which is why I think it is fair to say that the Megalodon still exist today, but in the size of the Great White.
I also don't think that the Great White or for that matter any other type of predatory shark has a "max size" they can grow to. We all know that predatory fishes usually tend to be larger when there's much prey to feed off. A great white has a potential to grow to massive sizes, and I still think they could (if the conditions were right) grow to the size of a Megalodon.
There was a news-report from Australia (the video is up here on youtue) which shows a huge (supposedly) Great White breaching the water next to a shark cage. The shark is in the background, and the cage nearer the camera and even then, the head of the shark is massive and looks allmost to be the same size as the cage or even slightly bigger. Some has questioned if it actually is a Megalodon or a huge Great White.
Megalodon is fake ?
Ieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
(sorry for my bad english)
If that happened
We are all screwed
Saying that we haven't explored everywhere and thus megalodon mug exist and scientists are dumb for saying otherwise proves you to be the dumb one. You have no proof megalodon exists, there is plenty of proof its long dead.
I thought Tylosaur was the great predator of the sea
orcas take out blue whales.so 1 mega can take out a blue whale.but there are things that could probably take out mega.
because it's the biggest animal ever
He
psd
or even worse of all...a CHICKEN!!!!
He hunted whales twice his size
Can't wait for megalodonado movie.
Well stop calling it that.
Whales surfaced a lot, since they are an ideal prey of megalodon it won't be long before it get spotted....if ones still roams.
Unfortunately, no report till today
T-Rex is 44 feet Long ?
U mad bro ?
I saw it too
Fucking King ghidorah was blocking my view
They need to be warm
its not real meglodon is dead
Your claims smell fishy to me.
... wow
They saw a megalodon and saw it kill a sperm whale and that saw it when that were
In a cage and the fins were exactly the same but It was a baby megalodon.
Ll.l
Dunkleosteus weighs 5 tons
Megalodon on the other hand...
Weighs more than 30 tons
Dunkleosteus its 10meter long
Megalodon its 18meter long
Megalodon preyed on whales bigger than itself
So it might be possible
But there are no confirmed reports
If he is so powerful then why does he need humans to stand up for him?
The Laws of Thermodynamics (science) actually directly contradict the notion of the omnipotent God described in the Bible. Matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed.
Science gives you more detailed evidence for how the world works, complete with testable phenomena, laws of the natural world, theories actually FULLY SUPPORTED by evidence and NOT CONTRADICTED by evidence, no silly metaphors for this and that.
There is no evidence of the world-wide flood that the Bible describes (there were many floods throughout prehistory, but none that encompassing), no Ark has been found (certainly not one that could support even a fraction of Earth's animal population taken in pairs), etc, etc.
How do you address the purely ecological issues with a flood covering everything? With three words:
God did it.
Doesn't matter if there were fossils dated to "when the flood began". That DOES NOT prove a global flood.
By the way, where's the evidence that kangaroos swam from Mount Arafat to Australia? And how about the pandas and most every other animal? Why does the evidence support the theory of evolution and not your creation story?
I'll tell you why: your creation story is pure bunk.
Pray for yourself.
Let's see, what's also in the Bible? Oh, you can "purify" yourself by burning birds. You can live after dying by talking to a God who never reveals himself. Apparently, snakes can talk to humans. Apparently, people in the Stone Age packed two of each animal species into a massive wooden ship.. without regard to the sort of diseases they were bringing aboard and with technology unavailable in the Stone Age! And don't start that the ocean animals were allowed to swim and didn't have to be brought aboard! IT WAS A GLOBAL FLOOD! Do you have any idea how problematic a GLOBAL FLOOD would be for any water animal that lives in a certain environment- certain salinity, pH, food sources, etc???
Why is there no scientific evidence for anything like that? Explain that!
28, in fact.
lol just kidding
WELL YOU ARE DEAD HIHI
oh
Who the hell is lava?
We're big enough. Bigger body=more resources necessary to sustain life. We would went exctinct if we were in size of an elephant.
In current life, the Blue Whale is 30 meters long compared to a 15cm wide human that is 1.7 meters tall.
In prehistoric life, take this: Amphicoelias Fragillimus is estimated to be 60 meters long.
#rekt
You have to consider ecological and climate factors.
i know, but thx for the trivia anyway
also, Coelacanthus, Jellyfishes, Hugh Hefner
The famous prehistoric marine killers, the Mosasaurs are actually also part of the order Squamata and are the largest representatives of that order, with the largest Mosasaur species reaching lengths of 15-16 meters.
If megladon was beached a T-Rex would kick it's ass.
Come to think of it, I think a lot of animals would go for a lot of sushi if that happened.
Besides T-rex wasn't even the largest theropod. Giganotosaurus was longer and Spinosaurus, the largest theropod on record currently at about 50+ feet
The sperm whale fails to hold that title despite its size simply because it is too picky in how it eats, virtually only eating small fish and the occasional giant squid. The mega ate whales by BITING THEM IN HALF.
At the end of the day, the most dominant species of the entire history of the earth, land or sea is homo sapiens sapiens.
Of course, you're right that you can change the context and setting and make a point that neither man nor the mega was an apex predator. Example, a mega was useless once it stranded itself to shore. Likewise, a man is useless without weapons or traps. yadda yadda...but, i'm not going to split hairs like that.
And if sheer size alone determines that, then the blue whale which eats krill and mackerel would be the greatest apex predator by that logic.
The "apex predator" does not mean "most successful" predator, numb skull. It means while it was alive, it had no natural predators.
It is likely that both livyatan melvillie and the mega were the two apex predators at the time. Id probably agree livyatan melvillie was more successful, simply because whales tend to move more efficiently than sharks. Both were at the top, nonetheless.
Weight and jaw power scale with the size of the prey which considering it ate whales, was needed. However there have been fossils found where the whale survived long enough to heal from these wounds so don't think the C.Meg had some mythical 100% successrate at hunting. No predator ever has done that.
C.Meg was also hardly the unrivaled king of the ocean during it's time, it shared it's home with livyatan melvillie, a giant carnivorous sperm whale.with an equally massive jaw and surprisingly enough a very similar bite force strength (again it needed it because it ate the same food as c.meg) And in a fight between these two monsters, that high bite force is going to matter more on a creature with a cartilaginous skeleton. However that is neither here nor there. Honestly the winner would be whoever got the first bite in meaning both c.meg and livyatan won and lost.
However that's beside the point. Size does not dictate the success as an apex predator, which is what I was saying earlier. What dictates it being the apex predator of all time is how long that particular predator remains successful, which for Carcarodon, is absolutely unrivaled at about 13.5 million years, surviving from the mid Oligocene to the early Pleistocene. Size only means it had big food to feed it. Prey became smaller and more agile, on top of the dropping temperature is what finally killed of the megalodon.
And no, don't try to sell me that "they might still be out there." bs. Sharks like that would stay near their prey aka whales. And no they can't be in the deepest depths of the ocean because a big active shark like that needs a lot of oxygen and the lower you go, the less oxygen there is per square meter of water.
Meg can't do that and would have had to chase down prey big enough to make the energy pay off worth it.
ok
Nice to see the dinosaur revolution T. rex though.
The jaws of the first ever Megalodon fossil found might have been a sub-adult.
Many scientists say that this giant was 15m long from the LOWER estimate, and 25m long from the HIGHER estimate.
Tyrannosaurus Rex was 12 meters long.
Carcharodon megalodon or Carcharocles megalodon was about 15-25 meters long.

Either that image is photoshopped or that is a fake model. It's more like this:
http://s2.djyimg.com/n3/eet-content/uploads/2013/08/teeth.jpg
Still big, just not THAT big.
ONLY IN BATTLEFIELD 4
Megalodon can rip GodZilla's leg and trip it over but GodZilla's legs are are coated with strong, padded, armored skin. Godzilla can fight under water but the Megalodon can do under water and shoot up and bite Godzilla's face and stun it for a while then pull its tail so it topples and hits it head which can break the skull or damage its brain if there is enough force. Godzilla can grab the Megalodon and headlock it and break its windpipe or claw at its gills or chest. Godzilla can slam the Megalodon and bash its cartilage skull on the land or Godzilla can step on its head and pull its fins or tail and rip it off and be a the Megalodon with it. This is a good match but after this speculation the MegaLodon will win.
Wah wah
I do agree about our media though, it's pretty disgraceful.
Meanwhile I have scuba dived with wild bull sharks next to me, without a cage. The image that most documentaries portray about them, are pure lies seeking for sensation.
Spectacle and sensation seem more important than valid information on American TV shows
Don't act like your country doesn't have problems either. They're probably just kept more secret and aren't publicized because your country doesn't focus on that as much as we do. Put the same kind of tv power into your country and you will find a bunch of idiots like here in the america.
I think America isn't stupid. Just the ones where you jack off and not tell anyone about it to 'be cool'.
And where did everyone learn English? Mexico?
Sensation beats science every single time.
If somebody mentions the word America to me, this is what comes to my mind:
1) obesity, McDonalds
2) middle class poverty, capitalism
3) no public health care
I don't have a problem with American people. I do have issues with your government and media
I agree with you on that. It's similar to me bashing muslims because I have a problem with Islam. The real problem is in the message, not in the people. But clearly the message affects the people badly and I feel the same about the USA. All these attention seeking tv shows, fast food addiction in an obese society and people refusing to take care of each other with a national health care system ($$$)
Call it superficial but that is my view of America
Sure, because everybody on this planet needs to know whose titties I watch on internet
the terrible jobs over their (sweatshops)
Are you denying that American TV is all about seeking sensation?
I am going shark cage diving in south africa and I am looking for scientific information about behavior of great white sharks.
Not some retarded cartoon with the purpose of selling it to an audience. Americans do it to everything, for commercial purposes. A simple game of wrestling was commercialised into "catch" with Hulk Hogan getting pissed off if you tell him how fake it is. The movie "jaws" was commercialized as well and led to a worldwide misconception of the behavior of sharks
I'm okay with the capitalist attitude of Americans, looking for sensation and trying to sell everything. But it's a big shame that they tell lies about nature for commerical purposes
. Every fucking American documentary on youtube has lies, sensation and horror stuff in it
Megalodon is 40-50 feet
Godzilla 2000 feet
Edit: this graphic is more specific about his size variations over the years. http://s3.amazonaws.com/inarticles/fb4fe81ffed1bd2f72b91b7d9c89534d.jpg
