Hi I used 24/7 mode on a high tech planted tank. it ran great but one day i woke up to hair algae on EVERYTHING. it was like someone dumped a bunch in my tank overnight. I ran it on a 10g with PPS-PRO ferts and paintball co2. Hope this helps you out! Your tank is much taller than mine was so your PAR will likely be lower (which may be better) than what mine was.

GH and KH will not be effected by anything you put inside of the tank. The only thing that would effect the GH and KH of your tap would be a soft rock that would actively be breaking down and adding to the total hardness of the water. Your substrate may lower the PH slightly but it might fluctuate anytime you add new water to the tank as the hardness of the water will buffer the PH back up.

Nice scape. You just took me down trough a trip on memory lane. I used worm castings on my first planted aquarium way back in 2006. That stuff is loaded with nutrients, grew plants non stop for a long time. And I used akadama is subsequent scapes right up until 2011. Only stopped because it became hard to find after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. You just give me an idea about retrying these too again.

Great channel! Been watching for a while now. I've had the finnex planted+ 24/7 se for close to a month now cycling my own shrimp tank (20L). I've been using the 24/7 mode since day 1 and i can say it will definitely grow plants! It will definitely grow algae too, like someone else mentioned. Light only goes off for 4 or 5 hours which isnt enough. Love how the light looks in 24/7 mode just wish you could choose how long to run that cycle. All in all building my own leds next, super easy with the kits out there and you can have full control. You can even get the new WIFI controller! Honestly The Tech inside the finnex light is old and not being driven efficiently hence why that driver on your plug gets super hot and they tend to stop working over time. Samsung did just drop their new chip, which makes everything else go down in price! So now is a good time to find deals on the "old" but still way newer than finnex chips. Sorry for the ramble, you just put out soo much great info that i couldnt help but try and give back a little. Thanks

I'm glad you chose not to use he java fern any longer. the choice of the plants suits more that tank. I think you should try to get a Crinum calamistratum in this tank. to me, this is a great shrimp tank plant.

hey quick question for you. I'm starting up a 10 gallon shrimp tank thinking of having blue velvet and red Crystal shrimp in it with some baby tear carpet and some other plants that I haven't decided on. I was going to use the fluval plant substrate and was wondering if I can just use that or should I put something underneath it if so what? also was going to get the fluval 20g co2 system is it any good or should I just get the 88g so I can put the paint ball tank on it any help would be great thanks

Leaving the 24/7 mode on through the night without an off period will invite an algal bloom. I like the 24/7 mode because it's brightest period is only 3 hours but the night feature is a concern.

I have the new Finnex 24/7 SE and have been running it in 24 hour mode. It's been growing s. Repens, java moss, java fern, water wisteria, bacopa, Anubias nana, and ludwigia red like damn weeds. Love the light and my betta does too. Keep up the awesome work on the Channel!!

AQUAPROS I also use the 24/7 mode, I love it! But I find that for my 55 gallon its not enough to run a high tec tank, so I've added another led light that is on the same timer as my co2. The second light and co2 are on from 11am to 6pm. At 6:30pm the 24/7 mode brightness is low enough that it doesn't result in algee for constant light. This way I always get to enjoy my tank!

I'm considering a small shrimp or betta tank for our 'office' for when my partner works from home but with a cat in struggling to find ways to make it less stressful for the inhabitants. I have a 50gal scape in the living room but with the plants and hiding spaces its easier, I dunno how to make a safe secure enclosure on such a small scale without taking away swimming space :-/

If you don't care about any of the expensive crap you can just buy new shrimps when some of them die and you wouldn't have spent as much money. I intentionally don't make a laboratory out of my fish tanks, because I don't want to breed sissies, I only want the hardy ones to reproduce.
