On Oahu, you might consider trying snorkeling at Sharks Cove. It's a very shallow, protected area. You could just stand in waist deep water and look at the fish. If you do take swimming lessons, here are tips for learning how to snorkel: https://www.snorkelingdives.com/?article=102

What a lucky move! I'm sure you and your girls will love it there. The snorkeling is amazing on Oahu, and it is very easy to catch a quick flight over to the other islands to explore. The best snorkeling on Oahu is at Hanauma Bay, and it is quite family-friendly there. The worst snorkeling is located off Waikiki Beach -- the water clarity is quite poor. Since the wind change dramatically through the year, the surf varies greatly with seaon. While the Northshore has excellent snorkeling, too, it is closed out from October through April due to high surf. During that time, I'd recommend the Ko Olina Tidepools for a good family-friendly snorkeling dive on Oahu. Hi moving there in 3-4 months, I cannot wait! =D I miss the ocean (living in WA, near Seattle) and lived most of my life before that in FL. But Hawaii looks like it's just amazing. Any tips of the first ( no waikiki) beach to go to? i have two girls as well, ages 7 and 12 Thanks!

Thank you for your comments on snorkeling in Oahu. Yes, we are continually disappointed with the Waikiki snorkeling due to poor water clarity. It's never been more than 5 to 10 feet of visibility. By far, the best snorkeling on Oahu is at Hanauma Bay ( http://www.snorkelingdives.com/scripts/four.asp?ID=22855&TYPE=SNORKELING ).

I live in Kailua Kona HI just visiting Oahu for the day while my daughter was on the Princess Cruise so we were very disappointed in Waikiki not snorkeling there! Where is the BEST place on Oahu to snorkel you didn't say? North Shore? I couldn't agree more! Sharks Cove snorkeling is awesome, as long as you hit it at the right time of year. I've seen people show up in March and leave pretty disappointed due to the high surf. It's best during the summer.
