A lot of people are saying the round ones distort the image in that things are closer than they appear and makes them dizzy.
We went with flat ones and love them, don't notice any distortion on the sides.

I use the Tribord Easybreath, which has magnification on the front and no distortion on the sides. I still see no problems.

The thing that you forgot to mention is the refraction caused by the curved mask. When under water, the mask acts like a lens, so the more it is curved, the more disorted the image becomes. So thats why I would go for the flat mask.

I tried this flat fronted mask since then has a flat front and have been pretty disappointed in how it distorts your field of view around the outside. There is no logical explanation why in the world makers still make rounded lenses for underwater viewing/filming. It is stupid. All underwater viewing equipment should be flat for the sharper image. Period. Rounded glasses are used only for very deep submarine to withstand the high pressure.

I totally agreed...this video doesn't make any sense...how in the world a rounded mask would make the image less distorted !!??...the refractive index in a rounded mask is higher...ergo...more distortion. Just grab a drinking glass (a round one...of course)...put it in front of your eyes.. and look around through it...everything is messy. Now look through any flat window at your home...
Snorkeling masks should always be flat...just like any underwater case for your camera.

E7 Polar I'm talking about very deep where no human can reach, but only equipment. For scuba diving you don't need sphere lenses protection. the pressure is not THAT high.

Depends...
If you are able to equalize ear pressure without hand, then the limit is the breath you can hold. If you can't then its the pressure your eardrums can take (or how much pain you can take from them).

+Moshe G I don't think you can snorkel with glasses using this mask. There wouldn't be a tight seal on the sides of your face

it's about water displacement rounded has better picture but flat has a lower water volume and is less buoyant. think round for surface skimming and flat for free diving.

Flat mask is 100% the way to go! Although the curved mask provides a 'larger' view, the round face made me dizzy and gave me a head ache. Same thing when my sister used it. Therefore, we both returned them and got flat ones. Plus that company, sea mask, NO longer makes the round mask! Clearly they found out that the round sucks!

Also probably the same reason there are no goggles out there with a round face in the first place....

That's a good report. Myself and another professional diver did a 'mask swap' on a job in Iceland. His mask seemed fine... until I had to focus on something 1 foot or less in front of my face - aaaargh! I went boggle-eyed, got eye and head-ache and couldn't do my work. Go flat or go home lol.

Wish this video was up a few weeks ago before I purchased. I ended up getting the curved mask which was slightly more expensive than then flat mask.

I find there is some slight distortion on the curved when not looking directly in front but is still great for visibility

yeah, either way they were quite nice to use. I did find that I had to position my mouth to direct air downwards otherwise air would flow up and tickle my eyes. Tightening the mask did help a bit though.

All in all very happy with the masks

Timothy Tan Sorry I didn't get it done sooner. You do see some distortion at :59 in the video but nothing compared to the flat masks. I prefer my curved mask every time since I have both.
