I swim just fine, but have always had an issue with not breathing through my nose and instead trying to breathe solely through my mouth which is what traditional snorkel gear required. With this new style of full face mask, however, I can breathe the way I normally would with no problems. It made snorkeling in Hawaii much more comfortable and enjoyable for me. I highly recommend this for anyone who has had a hard time with standard snorkeling gear. Although it is anti-fog, it isn't necessarily "fog-proof". It is also anti-leak, but then isn't every snorkel mask?!?! Yeah, I think "breathing under water" is taking a VERY liberal approach to the features for sales tactic. :-) That being said, I had the exact same feeling trying to use a standard snorkel, almost a claustrophobic feeling - it had as much to do with NOT being able to breathe through my nose I think. With this type of mask, your mouth and nose is "normal" - you can keep your mouth closed & breath normally out of your nose while you float around and enjoy the views. I used it at Hanauma Bay in Honolulu and then on a Snorkeling trip in Maui - it made all the difference in the world for me and I was able to enjoy snorkeling for the first time in about 10 years! I believe you can do it too!!!

Thanks! I have seen some advertise that you can breathe underwater. I tried snorkeling in Cozumel when we were on a crusie and had a panic attack trying to breathe through my mouth with my face under water. I ordered one of these to take on our trip to Maui. I hope i can do it!

No, it's not magic. :-) It allows you to snorkel without having to have a huge piece of rubber in your mouth and allows you to breath normally through your nose, but to take a breath and keep air flowing, the top of the snorkel has to be out of water. You can dive down with this on, but not and breathe freely - you can breathe out still, but not continually breathe in and out while the top spout is under water.

I used the Small/Medium (I have a smaller head). There is a Large/Extra Large for typical guy size head or woman with a bigger head.

Only if you dive down. So long as your snorkeling you can breathe through it but if you dive down below the surface you'll have to hold your breath.

No - it's not that sophisticated. Just helps keep water from coming into the mask.

Glad you caught it. I'd say Medium is for smaller adult faces - probably most women and men with smaller head/face (like me). L/XL is for average size male face.
