Why skip the part about hot to attach he snorkel to the mask? There are many kinds of straps and hooks and it is not obvious which goes where. But no one includes this in the tutorials. it is the FIRST STEP!!!

+Julian john -- Very good for diving if you're doing free diving. Swim along the surface until you see something that interests you, then take a breath and dive. When you come back up, blow the water out of the tube and go back to breathing normally. For scuba, not as useful unless you're diving way off shore without a boat; in that case the snorkel can let you swim out without depleting your air tank, and swim back again at the end of the dive.

I'm still confused as to how you expel the water after you surface. Is it that you take a deep breath through the snorkel before you submerge, and then use that to blast out the water. If you forget to take a deep breath before submerging, then you're not going to be able to push out the water, right?

I was snorkeling for about 2 hours and the next day developed a soar throat that got worse and lasted for over a week. I read it was from mouth breathing. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening while snorkeling?

@12345JJBB Why would you want to do that when you can stay in the water and enjoy the marine life? Going up and down for breath would tire you out very quickly and take away from the experience.
