Snorkeling CocoCay | Royal Caribbean | Snorkel Coco Cay Bahamas

Snorkeling CocoCay is amazing! When in CocoCay you NEED to go snorkeling! CocoCay is Royal Caribbean's own island in the Bahamas... Formerly know as Little Stirrup Cay. CocoCay has AMAZING snorkeling with viz being 100+ ft. The snorkeling area includes two makeshift ship wrecks and two makeshift plane wrecks. We live in South Florida and snorkel / scuba every week. We both agree CocoCay offers some of the best snorkeling we've ever done. For $32 (for the day), guests can rent mask, snorkel, fins and vest to explore the crystal blue waters. CocoCay requires EVERYONE to wear a vest. Netalia (advance open water) and I (rescue diver) brought our own snorkeling gear, but rented vests ($6)......instead of inflating, we sucked the air out of them! Snorkeling CocoCay is a must if you're on Royal Caribbean! Make sure to explore under the lifeguard stands, too. http://SinkFloridaSink.com Snorkeling CocoCay | Royal Caribbean | Snorkel Coco Cay Bahamas Music by: Carlos Saura - A Lomos del Dragon Blanco (To Loins of the White Dragon)

It's as safe as snorkeling anywhere else. We didnt see any sharks when snorkeling (i wish we did). the planes are closed off so you can't enter them.

what a plane is this - know anybody?

DDRmails this plane was sunk near the island intentionally. there is rebar over the windshield and windows to ensure no divers enter it. Just a cool thing to see when you're visiting the island!

I just got back from cococay and while I was swimming there were 2 baby sharks in about a foot of water then as everyone's attention was on them, one about 5 feet long was swimming about 20 feet off shore going after little fish. It was amazing

+Hannah Johnson Hi hannah, No sharks while snorkeling in CocoCay. We went scuba diving in Nassau the following day and saw 2.

Did you pay for an excursion or did you swim out to the man made wrecks yourself? I am visiting the cococay and do not wanna pay for an excursion.

+Jenny Barrett Hello, we did not do an excursion. The wrecks are only a few hundred feet off shore. We brought our own snorkeling gear and had to rent a vest. Near the beach they have a map of where everything is.

Went there last month, jellyfish, jellyfish as far as the eye could see.

Yeah I'm not really sure what caused them to be out in such numbers, once you got to about 40 yards out, just before the watch tower, you hit a wall of the bastards. I tried to navigate it but after several stings and the jellies only getting denser I turned back. Shame, I really wanted to see some of the fish you caught in your video.

eek! I didnt see any jellies on this trip. I was diving in Hollywood, Florida last month and counted over 30 of them on our 15ft decent from the beach dive. I like seeing them....if im in a wetsuit lol

hey im here next week and really want to find these wrecks, could you help me out with where youd have to drive in to get to them?
Sink, Florida, Sink! -
Sink, Florida, Sink! - - 9 years ago
Hi Jon,  The vest the island makes you wear is inflatable.....my GF and I sucked the air out of it to reduce the bouncy. We tried to enter the water before getting the vests and island staff stopped us. the shipwrecks are fake. they look like over sized fabricated items that you would have in a fish tank. I believe the planes are real planes, but put their for tourism.
Even with that being said, this is still a great place to snorkel.

+Sink, Florida, Sink! - If you don't mind me asking, how do you dive with a vest on and what'll happen if i just say screw you and go out without a vest. i'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything but i'm going there oct and when i snorkel i intend diving down also are these real wrecks or just props they sunk for the sake of tourism, thanks

as long as you know how to swim, you'll be able to see the wrecks.

The island requires you to have a vest on... I'm a rescue diver and I had to wear one lol.

ah awesome thanks , also do you know if you need to have any experience to be allowed to go see them?

Hi Luc, Finding the wrecks are easy. the viz here is great! The ship wrecks are about centered with the snorkel beach. when you're in the water, you'll see dark spots in the distance...those are the ship wrecks. The planes are further out and to the left. If I remember correctly, they are near one of the in-water lifeguard stands. Also, when you get to the island, they have a map of the water to help you find them. Enjoy!

The planes are the farthest point out. Id say they were about 12-15ft deep. Here's a tip when you go.....take one of the first tenders to the island. With less people in the water, the better the visibility will be.
