The "something man-made" at 2:30 is the deck made by the shop above. The gift shop has stairs that lead down to this pier/deck in the cave.

+Randy Aven My brother and I used to spend our summers at the Cove, oh God back in the mid 80's( im old LOL)
anyway we would run up those steps into the gift shop and either run out the front door laughing our butts off,(oh the clerk would yell and scream I think it was the owners at the time). Or.... we would run back down the stairs and jump over the rail and all the tourists would just be amazed, back into the water and swim out into cove.....Good times

the stairs or "man made thing" they see lead up to a gift shop. they charge a few bucks to walk down into the cave to the ocean

Do you need a permit to enter the coves? either snorkeling o with kayaks?

No. It is a preserve. You can't even take a shell off the beach, and that's a good thing.

To have the best experience, do this: Take all your belongings and beach at La Jolla Cove. There, you can snorkel to your hearts content. To get to the caves, swim North 50-100 meters and go in there. Currents usually aren't dangerous.

Yeah this was my best snorkeling experience in SoCal. You get here from La Jolla Cove beach in the San Diego Area. You have to swim north from the cove about 50-100 meters to get to most of the caves.
