A_LUKE_AROUND_THE_WORLD
A_LUKE_AROUND_THE_WORLD - 7 years ago
Sinyong Ang usually what you do is breathe out hard when you come up breathe in gently as not to get and water in your mouth then breathe out hard again the you can breathe more heavily if your snorkel has a valve you can cover the top and breathe heavy and it will come out the valve

What are your thoughts on the snorkel vest vs life jacket thing? Ive heard type 1 wont cut if for snorkeling but type 2 and 3 might allow you to keep your head in the water. (I see these people are wearing life jackets)
Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
Snorkel Vests can be adjusted to the buoyancy we require, if an
individual wish to dive with Snorkeling vest, they are able to do so by
deflating the vest (similar to Buoyancy control device (BCD) in scuba diving).
However Life jackets are not built to do so, they are buoyant
and keep you always at the surface.
Both types are comfortable and Safe but if you wish to do bit of
diving with your snorkel, it’s highly recommend to have a Snorkel vest.
in a another a case, if you are not that comfortable in the
water or if it’s your first time snorkeling, it’s recommend to wear a Life
jacket, which will help you float all times.

I'm going snorkeling in a lake where there's a rope swing and a few lost GoPro from what I hear it's fresh water will any fish or anything come after me?
Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
Normally if you do not approach or touch the marine life nothing will come after you, however we would certainly suggest you to check more information if there is any dangerous creatures in a particular lake. In regards to your GoPro there are some accessories, which will help you to fix it to your hand and not to lose during snorkeling. You may check online or in the special shops.

Barracudas do not normally attack humans. However they are sometimes attracted by  by reflections of shiny metals, so try to not to wear any jewelry for snorkeling, however if you find that you have forgotten to remove the jewelry hide it from sight or cover it with your other hand. Then back off slowly, do not approach the barracuda and it will not bother you ;)

Dear Anita, normally to see the reef you will be floating on the water surface, and the water depth can be between 1-15 meters. However you should not be scared. Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
+SeikiBrian thank you for helping us out, useful information for the guest!
SeikiBrian
SeikiBrian - 8 years ago
+TIANCONG LV -- You're welcome, and congratulations on your first dive! Skin and scuba diving are amazing experiences, and I envy you being able to do it in Thailand. (I live in Seattle, USA, where the only warm water is in a bathtub!)
TianCong Lyu
TianCong Lyu - 8 years ago
+SeikiBrian thank you man, it's been very kind for you to tell me this. I'v tried the surface dive at samui this morning, it was godlike i never expect such a wonderful underwater world!
SeikiBrian
SeikiBrian - 8 years ago
+TIANCONG LV -- Kurumba Maldives' answer was incomplete. If you have a DRY snorkel (equipped with a valve that closes underwater), no water (or very little water) will get into the snorkel; however, if you have a PLAIN snorkel, also called a WET snorkel (which is just a hollow tube), water WILL get in the snorkel, and you blow it out when you surface...a technique called "clearing" the snorkel. It's very simple once you've been shown how to do it. Dry snorkels, especially the cheap ones, can malfunction, and either let water in if they're stuck open or prevent you from breathing if they're stuck closed. The simple tube snorkel has no moving parts, and so it is "failsafe" -- not to mention being very inexpensive. You can learn to dive with and clear a simple snorkel in just a few minutes' time.
Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
+TIANCONG LV thank you for your question. When you do dive diving you will keep your breath and water will not get into the snorkel. No particular skills are required, but you should be a good swimmer

Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
+Fakhira Musa dear Fakhira, we would suggest you to join our snorkeling lesson first, so you can calm down and learn how to use the equipment and how to float in the water. You will obviously have to wear the life jacket. A good option is to book for a private snorkeling tour, to ensure you are well taken care of by the instructor.

what kind of vests are they wearing? Are the required? Non swimmers?
Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
Yes we understand your point. But life jackets are recommended for all non-strong swimmers (and there is no rush when your snorkel). As well it depends on currents as sometimes they might be strong. So it is always advisable to wear a life jacket unless you are a strong swimmer. Snorkelling is very easy but enjoyable activity.
hank li
hank li - 8 years ago
+Kurumba Maldives thank you. I have never snorkeled and have never swum in the ocean. They say that life vests slow you down and inhibits you. But what good is that if you drown because you did not wear a vest? I know you can still drown with a life vest. So life vest it is to be safe and then I can remove it as I get proficient in snorkeling. Always safety first. Not a time to be proud and arrogant.
Kurumba Maldives
Kurumba Maldives - 8 years ago
+ccbeemine they are wearing a life jacket. It helps to float in the sea safely and it is a must for non swimmers.
