Jake Sutton leave a football in the water and it stops the whole of the pond freezing over ...& you can remove the ball and feed the fish thru the hole in the surface, also this stops any damaged being caused to the liner ... Hope this helps ....& I'm English btw

love the brickwork! and im lanning on doing a similar design in fron of my house that wraps around the foundation. my questions are as follows:
1: how did you get the liner to stay? did you put it under bricks?
2: if the liner is under bricks, what happens if you need to replace the liner?
3: should i put a drain, as it will be butted against my house?

Hi Eric , yes the liner is under the copings, purchase a good quality liner and it will last you at least 10 years.
My advice to you concerning your new pond being in contact with your house is not a good idea .... As it may/can cause dampness in your house.
Maybe leave small gap between pond wall & house wall ....

Really nice job you've done there. I'm looking to build a pond for my parents while I'm home for a few weeks. I was just going to dig out a basic wildlife pond but my mum asked if I could build a raised pond, and what she described is almost exactly the same as this.

I may end up stealing your design, but I doubt it'll come out half as nice!

I wouldve put some lucky bamboo in there. Over time it would grow over the surface of the water and would, in my opinion, give it a nice touch.

I'm not usually a fan of this style of pond, I like slightly more rustic looking ponds. But this is brilliant. It's a great design with a lot of little touches that really make it quite a special feature.

hi Allison, sorry for the late reply but i just dont like this new set up on utube ?? just find it difficult to find my new messages.....all the pipe work is around the back of the pond, the filter is in the bottom left hand corner as you look at this pic, then a pipe runs up the back, to the top of the waterfall. hope this helps. Good question.....this is my first video so i have made a few mistakes sorry ! 1, The Hozelock pump is in the deepest part of the pond, right hand side as you look at the pond, approx 4" off the bottom. 2,The Bio-force filter compartment is shown at 1:39, i built this compartment separate to the pond. 3,All the pipe work basically runs behind the stream/waterfall this is so its out of sight. Hope this has helped you my friend....good luck

In a cold climate with freezing temps. your pond must be at least 80 cm deep, a little more than 3 feet.

you can always get a heater for the water during the colder months. Eheim sells some very decent heaters that auto on/off depending on the temperature you set

Gerneral rule of thumb it's 60 bricks per square meter for 4 inch brickwork (1 skin) and 120 for 9 inch brick work (2 skins). Nice job mate my mother is asking me to build her one searching the net for ideas, I'm inspired ;D

I like your waterfall construction in this project. Good work. Feel like I should mention this to others (you probably already know this) but be sure if you build an above water pond to heat it in the winter since elevated ponds naturally don't have any of the ground around them from the cold. Your fish will thank you. :)

Great Job! Looks good- Thank you for sharing- Just one suggestion about the liner -You could have saved money by drilling 1/2 in. holes 3 " up from the bottom around the perimeter & inserting 1/2 " rebar in a 12" grid formation. Then simply pour a concrete floor and then coat the entire walls & bottom with a product called Thoroseal- it is non-toxic to fish, waterproof & lasts decades- I've built well over 2000 concrete water gardens since 1982 & have never had a leak! These pics were taken on completion of my pond......March 2012 Plants were added later in the year along with a couple of fish....but not too many too soon as the pond has to get established first, along with getting the levels correct in the water. Hi, the pump is in the water to the right hand side as you look !, sorry i didnt put any pics of this on my video i forgot sorry. It is in the deepest part of my pond which is approx 3ft below the grass level as you look ! It sits 3 to 4 inches off the bottom of the pond so not to suck in any sh*t off the bottom. Hope i have helped.

Good question kelly, i have seen many ponds done in different ways to mine in other countries....In England we seem to use liners quite alot, i dont really know why maybe its more available ? I recently watched a video of a american man use 2 layers of sand & cement render onto the inside of the brickwork to make the pond water tight..... this i may try next time ? i build ponds professionally and i can tell you that fibre glassing the inside of a pond and finishing it with g4 will last 10 times longer than a liner , it also doesnt give the unsightly effect of the liner crimped at the ponds top , but does leave a smooth all round finish, a slight tear or rip in a liner is a nightmare ,even if you find the leak it is impossible to fix properly,but as you say its your pond, so enjoy

i meant professionally fibre glassed you can do it yourself , it can be applied to any brick mortar surface then painted with g4 to seal it , not a preformed one you buy from a shop,its what the larger koi ponds use and it lasts forever ,unlike a liner which normally only lasts about 10 years

hi, not to sure of your question but i will try to help were i can....You can quite easily change the flow of water off a waterfall by just adding small pebbles or stones (depending on the size of your waterfall) to each side of the waterfall and this will change the flow/pattern of water as it falls off the edge !. i hope i have answered your question ? take care

Thank you so much for your comment x Yer i designed it as i went along and i think it worked out quite well..... i want to get some pink water lillies in my pond my daughter has asked for them and shes the boss ! :) i havnt got any fish yet but im open to suggestions ??? Thanx & take care

Beautiful pond..was part of the design to have it make a lot of white noise? [noticed in that one pic it looked like a semi-detached?] Nice combination of stone and brick....what sort of plants/fish are you planning on?

Really good pond, one of the best ive seen. Ive just bought a Pre-formed pond and will be starting to install this next week (hopefully) you have given me loads of ideas to use, hope you don't mind.

this pond cost me approx £1000-1200 in total. but really it is down to you how much or how little you want to spend on your pond ?

The liner i purchased is of excellent quality ! and will last a long time...The water and pebbles protect the liner from sun light and anything else that may cause damage to the liner. Also like to add to your comment, nothing last for ever !. Hope i have answered your comment and thank you.
