I'm very happy with this episode. All Saratoga or Arowana as they are known globally were caught on Surface lures or topwater lures fished from my Bass kayak. I caught heaps of big Saratoga that look and act just like Arowana. Catching them on topwater baits like Kokoda Bat, a cicada chitter bug style lure, also catch them on river 2 sea soft plastic frog lure. Hey man love the vids just a suggestion if your having trouble hooking fish on a frog try a heavier rod it will drive the hooks better into the fishes mouth. Tight lines!

definitely beats the hell out of largemouth bass. I quit freshwater cause bass get so borrrrriiiing. I mainly fish offshore jigging & popping now pretty exciting but not the same as your type of fishing. If I was on your side of the globe I'd definitely have to give freshwater a shot again. I too think generally fish aren't that fussy. But sometimes the selection makes all the difference.
I had one session up here with a few others in the boat and it was a slow day. The score was 1-nil in my favor and after tying on a switchblade I quickly took it out to 4-nil. My mate Glenn had enough and went searching in his gear for one and finally landed his first fish soon after.The other two tied on switchblades and a few more fish were boated.

It looks that way, I might have to find some land locked waters up around Arhnem Land to test that out. But I don't think I would do it in a kayak.
BTW I have noticed that the toga really like the 1/4 oz TT lure switchblades, it might be the vibrations they put into the water? Could be a similar effect with the spinner baits?

Good work mate, We catch most of our surface bass using kokoda bats, so cheap @ $6.50 a pop and reliable in the summer.

Great vid Andy! Loved the close up take when you blooped the frog! Braid can be unforgiving. In my experience with bass and cod I never strike and let the fish dictate the take and allow the mono shock leader to take the impact for a far better hook up rate and have my rod level to the water or side on.

+Lachlan Ettles-O'NeiII I did that once with a big Toga, never again, I also did it with a small Europen Pike, also never again, not even a 40cm one! When Toga are 30cm long it's fine, but a big one will cut you deep, especially when they struggle.

Godzilla Kayak fishing Australia gets around a bit and Paul Pallet & isizinyo are both down at Coffs harbour and do a bit more snapper as well as macks, but are more about the paddling the fishing is just a bonus.

These fish are from 140/220 million years old, similar age to the Crocodiles!

huge saratoga sir, nice fish. btw in borneo we have the only red color of arowana, people call it super red arowana. and we dont use to fish it, but catch it using the net.
