Kayak Fishing Arowana Topwater Saratoga Andysfishing Andy's Fish Video EP.261

I'm very happy with this episode. All Saratoga or Arowana as they are known globally were caught on Surface lures or topwater lures fished from my Bass kayak. I caught heaps of big Saratoga that look and act just like Arowana. Catching them on topwater baits like Kokoda Bat, a cicada chitter bug style lure, also catch them on river 2 sea soft plastic frog lure. This fishing video is full of big Saratoga that look just like huge Arowana. Get a drink some chips and enjoy, loads of action in this video. Daniel Bennett
Daniel Bennett - 6 years ago
I too think generally fish aren't that fussy. But sometimes the selection makes all the difference.
I had one session up here with a few others in the boat and it was a slow day. The score was 1-nil in my favor and after tying on a switchblade I quickly took it out to 4-nil. My mate Glenn had enough and went searching in his gear for one and finally landed his first fish soon after. The other two tied on switchblades and a few more fish were boated.
Andy's Fishing
Andy's Fishing - 6 years ago
+Daniel Bennett Toga's really aren't that fussy. Most lure would work, it's more about the location and terrain. No, definitely not a kayak up there!
Daniel Bennett
Daniel Bennett - 6 years ago
It looks that way, I might have to find some land locked waters up around Arhnem Land to test that out. But I don't think I would do it in a kayak.
BTW I have noticed that the toga really like the 1/4 oz TT lure switchblades, it might be the vibrations they put into the water? Could be a similar effect with the spinner baits?
Andy's Fishing
Andy's Fishing - 6 years ago
+Daniel Bennett there could be! I have a theory, these fish are land locked and all the big ones eat the little ones, so only the biggest survive.

Andy's Fishing

Dylan Newton
Dylan Newton - 6 years ago
Great vid Andy! Loved the close up take when you blooped the frog! Braid can be unforgiving. In my experience with bass and cod I never strike and let the fish dictate the take and allow the mono shock leader to take the impact for a far better hook up rate and have my rod level to the water or side on.
Andy's Fishing
Andy's Fishing - 6 years ago

Hey Andy, nice video. I'm just wondering what sort of lures you would r commend for fish like mangrove jack or Barra. Have you ever used a vibe lure? Thanks

+The Dark Load thanks, anything you use for Barra you can use for Jacks, but a bit smaller. I have heaps of Barra fishing videos.

they don't seem to fight that hard ? what setup are you using line weight etc?
Andy's Fishing
Andy's Fishing - 6 years ago
+josh cumming they aren't a heavy fish for their size, they also try and swim backwards to get away that tires them out.

+Andy's Fishing RoKKiT KiT makes some great kayak specific vids specialising mainly in macks off the gold coast. Godzilla Kayak fishing Australia gets around a bit and Paul Pallet & isizinyo are both down at Coffs harbour and do a bit more snapper as well as macks, but are more about the paddling the fishing is just a bonus.

+Andy's Fishing bring your kayak or boat down to Noosa or Palmy late summer, the mackerel run late down here opposite to up your way. I'm know a few fellow YT film makers who would be glad to help you get onto a few spotties or Spanish.

+xx4x4x4 yes they are, they are also a very old species, my guess is because they are so ferocious.
These fish are from 140/220 million years old, similar age to the Crocodiles!
