The Hawaiian big wave charger went on to catch a record breaking 75 - 90ft wave at Nazaré in 2011, then ventured back in January 2013 and caught another massive wave with a possible height of 100ft. Nazare - does not fit the conventional wave measuring definition. SEE BELOW for Wave Height Measurement - It appears that the wave face is measured as the trough changes as the wave "kacks up." An 80 foot wave can jack up to 110 feet. Wow !!!! I watched am Australian 60 Minutes story on Nazare this past weekend - Sunday, the 4th March, 2018 - and the audience was advised that Nazare has quote " a unique set up that funnels in these consistently large monsters when an Arctic swell arrives.
WAVE HEIGHT MEASUREMMEMT - I have looked up How Waves are measured on the Net and this came up:
I also saw this on countless surfing videos.
"Wave Heights. As surf forecasters we measure waves from the trough to the peak. Typically we do this in feet but of course it's equally valid in meters. ... So a 4ft Hawaiian wave is 8ft on the face, or a couple or three feet over the head of a riding surfer."' However, in Nazare's case ..... a picture is definitely worth 1,000 words.

kunal4242 tsunamis are measured by their power or strenght and the mass of water they carry but this wave is measured by height. That means that tsunamis can be muchas smaller than this but have enough power to destroy whatever they face

+Jack Brannen It has to do with the mass of water it has...this wave though it is huge in heiggh isn't that heavy, and doesn't have that big of a mass to be called a tsunami...tsunamis can be even smaller than this wave but have a much lager mass that "swallows" the beach and everything behind it...(tsunamis are also made by earthquakes and this wave is not)...hope I helped...

OK I saw what GMcN spoke of: this wave broke in 2 & might have stood higher, for longer, meaning + or - another 40 ft in height, as a guess; what's the highest ever seen at reef, shelf or shore, and is the number going to turn out equal to those of freak/rogue open ocean storm slops, likewise at well over 100 ft?

Well ... i know Teahupo'o very well, was bodyboarding it before it was internationaly known (early 1990).... and i know that Teahupo'o can be very very scary and dangerous ! I don't know Nazare but for what i see there it seems "slow" and not as powerfull as Teahupo'o.
