Kiddo surfs pier 35 on Tamarack, Carlsbad - that's one of the toughest sand bar patch, even the chronic surfers go upto warm waters/power plant. This is quite a turbulent stretch to surf, more like how you'd be in a crazy wave pool. Love it, it's right in my backyard :') Go Kai stay rad in Carlsbad!

Not knocking the kid. He surfs good for his age, but he is just a good 13 year old surfer that has drive and aspirations of being a pro surfer. That's super cool and all, but he is not a prodigy. Eli Hanneman came here to Costa Rica with team Hurley when he was 11-12. Eli is what you call a "prodigy". He was doing stuff these kids can only dream of right now, and this was 3-4 years ago lol. Anyway nice vid and keep up the hard work. I only wish I had the energy and motivation at my age to keep that daily routine that kid does

I can't believe one of his dream spots Rio to travel to is Slaters wave pool. Really? Yeah it would be fun but come on. . .its this what the young groms are starting to look forward to?! . . . what happened to dream of going to the north shore when your from southern CA. Or Baja, mainland Mex, central America, South Pacific, South Africa & Australia???!!!!!!! Especially the rural west Australian coast. WAVE POOLS!? Come on. When i first saw Slater surf his wave pool for the first time and it looked so fun and perfect, I was wanting to to surf it soo bad! But never, EVER, EVER would I choose the wave pool over an uncrowded remote surf location with warm SALT water, and perfect waves with each wave different in its own beautiful way! Nature's power and beauty is a key component to me and my surfing. Take that away and the beauty is lost. Yeah obviously Slaters wave pool looks super fun, but it should not, and in my life wife will not affect, The true beauty of surfing a double over head perfect barrelling waves created by nature's own devices. Each wave in nature has it's own uncontrollable actions that can be surfed in a way to maximise power, speed & creativity while harnessing the waves energy to the fullest extent! Wave pools should be a last resort when the oceans are flat, or, u have no ocean.

in new zealand people don't really style its weird everyone surfs like their skating i think its the new disc like boards with the old thruster style boards we knifed our turns more now it seems real whippy and snappy. Itz JJ Babsss You are more likely to get struck by lightning then for a shark to attack. Don’t worry about it just live life! Also you can look at the report on the life guard tower it’ll say if there any dangers

+F Y Truu..we see a lot of sightings in NorCal, too. Attack rate is lower when people know when to stay out of the water. This kid is out there surfing when everything's dark...yeah I can't do that lol
