That is a harbor seal and not a sea lion. Sea lions have ears on the outside and harbor seals have theirs inside.

not sure about the shingle type stuff.. that's quite rough and could scratch the poor thing. maybe more like those non-slip bathtub mats. browse "non slip bathtub mat" in google images. there's some really good ones that may do the job quite well!

jnetlife A lot of social mammals have similar body language, including humans. The seal saw two people who seemed to not be a threat and wanted to either join in on the fun, hide from a predator, or just take a break from swimming.

+SunnyD ?? I studied with people who deal with rescue marine animals like this. A lot of the time, the reason they come onto boats and other floating materials is because of A) threat B) cold and malnourishment C) sick. I don't see how these comments are dumb.
