SURFERS ARE NOT KNOWN FOR THEIR INTELLIGENCE BUT INSTEAD THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE. THEY SEE LIFE THROUGH A HAZE OF POT SMOKE, AND PUT A THRILL OVER THEIR OWN PERSONAL SAFETY, THEY ARE USUALLY THE FIRST ONES IN THE WATER AFTER A SHARK HAS BEEN SPOTTED. THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD A HUNDRED TIMES THAT THEY LOOK LIKE A SEAL IN THAT BLACK WET SUIT BUT STILL PADDLE AROUND LOOKING LIKE A WHITE SHARKS SNACK.

MANY SURFERS DO NOT WORK A REAL JOB OR HAVE A VERY SUCCESSFUL LIFE IN THE REAL WORLD. THEY MIGHT WORK A JOB AS A CABANA BOY AT A BEACH RESORT , OR A ROACH COACH ON THE BEACH THAT SERVES BURGERS AND FRIES, WORKING MAYBE 4 DAYS A WEEK, IF THAT, AND WORK ABOUT 5 HOURS A DAY, IF THAT. MANY OF THEM STILL LIVE AT HOME WITH THEIR MAMA IN THE BASEMENT OR LIVE WITH ABOUT 10 OTHER SURFERS, OR DEAD BEAT POETS AS I CALL THEM. IN A HOUSE THAT SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 3 PPL.

THESE PPL ARE THE LAZIEST ON THE PLANET, AND I WOULD NOT GIVE 2 FUCKS FOR ONE IF A SHARK SWAM UP AND BIT THEM, I WILL STICK TO MY 9 IRON ON THE GOLF COURSE AND WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANY SHARKS.CAUSE I DONT GO IN THE WATER, THANK YOU VERY MUCH..........................................................................................................................

I wish I could have the sack at his age. I used to feel like in my 20's and early 30's that I would take on anything and for the most part I never backed down from any wave. No that I'm getting older I definitely don't have the confidence that I used to :-(

i met gary at the 1987 surf expo in long beach...his booth was right next to mine. he gave me a t-shirt, which i wore with great pride until it disintegrated...
i love the boards he makes from agave, balsa, etc...what a craftsman.
what a charger! that was about as heavy as puerto gets...

Sixteen or sixty-five, taking a wipeout like this really hurts. First, he gets a face full of wave, then he has a backwards free-fall, only to have the entire weight of the wave crush him when he finally hit the bottom. It just doesn't get worse.

Helllllllo? When you're on the lip, that offshore wind is pushing on the wave and you. The air hits the face and rises. As soon as you start to stand you're acting as a drag chute and stalling your boards momentum. Not only that, the air thats rapidly moving up the face is lifting the front section of your board which pushes the tail down creating more stall effect. We're you drunk or on some type of drug that effected your thinking process? Seriously. That attempted takeoff was timed way late. Looked like a closeout. Anyhow, I'm giving the vid a like and you some applause for having the balls to come on and show the kids how to avoid that kind of situation. You could survive 1 or 20 wipeouts like that but sooner or later your board will get you.
