to be fair Dick Dale started making music in '54 and Aqua Velvets started much later, 38 years after. Naturally it's going to sound 'copied' because at that point everything has already been done before. It's kinda like saying the Stray Cats copied Chuck Berry. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing they 'copied', I enjoy it, also because of the quality of the sound.

Victor. In its hey day there were well over 100. The original 'surf' player was Dick Dale followed by the Beach Boys (they tended to write across the whole surfing scene), Jan and Dean, The Surfaris, The Atlantics, The Chantays, The Sandals, The Ventures _ and heaps more. Mainly in the US and Australia but many other bands had the surfing beat as the basis of their style even if the themes weren't. My own group The North Shores played both going surf sounds plus our own rhythms based on the format. A major point is that unlike the Liverpool sound, earlier RocknRoll and Country Rockn Hootnananny, anti-war and later styles the Surf sound coupled with the hot rod and motor cycles sounds represented a lifestyle and a time of innocence. If you watch Surfs Up or the surfing films of the time you'll get the idea
