As a personal reminder every single surfer out there was alright but there was much weak spongers out there, that 20 foot face is best executed by a backside drop knee. You paddle, grip your boogie, go drop knee like if you were going backdoor right and nail the son a bitch pipe with one hand railing your bowl to slow you down. It was nice, the morning this day was mental if it had no wind. I would have gotten like 50 waves this day there was waves out there for everyone in comparison to the perfect clean days where theres 39 kooks out and only 10 catch waves and the set dies and like I swear to you honest to god all faith 29 people watching from the inside acting like cones on bumper cart at the fair.

Sunset, BARREL, stop, BARREL, stop BARREL and just get shacked on like 3 real barrel rides going right. Three or four at like 20 feet relax with nobody out. But shacked fest. Get out and take no breath barrel rides non stop, go for more time under the curtain each time.

This day everyone had to had catch one wave atleast after pipe to gums. By the way PIPELINE is the barrel thats super close to shore after the rock jetty. The rock jetty right in front of it is PIPELINE, PIPE or banzai pipeline is where this film is located. Mahalo, too many lets see sunset. My dream is sunset like 20 feet. But get shacked, shacked like a motherfucker going right. If you make it out.

Seems like a super high tide because there's a slight delay so that you have to drop in late. It goes from mush to hollow real fast a tad late but then more sudden when the wave crests. I looked up the tide and it was just a regular tide. So how did it do this? Maybe that 20 wave set made it like high tide as the surf got bigger each subsequent wave?

This is one of the experiences that will make u feel reeeely alive; unless it kills u while your on the way. U can also see how limited we all were for a long time before equip,emt caught up with our heads (entheogens, Honolua, 69, mini pintails). Previously No One rode size at Eukhai . First Root Swan, then Phill but even then, boards wernt ready. Now tho t he mentality meets rewallaity and sometimes the match is synergistic and everyone wins, not sure of the %. Really reveals how Van Artsdalen was seriously riding some kinda time and place karmic flow. Practicing at win dan zea didn't hurt as well. Nice filming

Most of my subscribers know if the complete ride is not shown then it ended badly. There are other channels you can go to that specialize in wipeouts or celebrate surfers looking bad.
Time and space is also a factor when you are trying to condense a day of surfing into a small movie with the priority being getting as many surfers as possible positively showcased. Hope this clears up any misunderstandings about editing.

With several surfers waiting for the same wave, how do they decide who's ride it is going to be?
Like at 4:58, you have about a dozen surfers bunched up with maybe three or so looking to surf that wave.

Usually it's the deepest - the one furthest back in the break - towards the left looking at the pipe. But not always. Maybe some nut has paddled so far left there is no way he will make it. Or if it's obvious the 'back' person isn't going to catch it, then the next one up. Or some places like the pipe, it's partially a territorial thing. But mostly it's a bit of all of that and as camille says - you gotta battle.
