Not sure I agree with Hawaiians being the best bodysurfers in the world - we have plenty here on Queensland's Gold Coast. I've been in the water with my brothers and fellow lifesavers most days the past 50 years, and I reckon we're pretty good...

Waimea is a tricky break . ask lifeguard where the sand bar stay . It's tricky because the size of wave doesn't matter . a big wave could just pop you out the back and a small wave could throw in a washing machine effect .

This is a really bad spot for body surfing! I don't care what everyone says on this video. The waves break way too fast and envelope the surfer within a second or two. Slower moving waves that don't break so violently are much better for body surfing. I rode some waves for 5-10 seconds all the way to the beach in California and the Caribbean. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii and I have body surfed during my entire life. I always carried a pair of Voit Viking or Churchill "Makapuu fins in the trunk of my car along with a pair of palaka shorts and Speedos in my younger days. I loved riding the breaks at Makapuu Point on Oahu and the Wedge in Newport Beach, California.

+Christopher Atkinson you should youtube different wave styles, The waves they are catching are just your typical close-out shorebreak. There is nothing to 'make' wave just closes out. That Matt Lasren video was sick though!

it is just a maneuver that can take you in places in the wave that you can't go to going straight. fun and actually can be exhilirating. it also looks fancy and gets points in contests! double and triple spins count even more as long s you don't lose the wave or make it look bad.

You, on the other hand, should really look into the punctuation rules of the english language... plus, "though" is written with "th". The semantics are also not too great: "put yourself in that position before you start talking". So you're saying I should be inside the ocean when I'm typing my messages? (and it's actually "typing", I'm not "talking" to you here...). And I had to google "shorebreak", turns out to be a term "surfers" use... guess you're one of those... well then, have a nice one, "dude"!

Have you ever been to the beach or even to a good shorebreak spot I dought it you would probably drown if you even came close to one of these waves they are so heavy and fast so put yourself in that position before you start talking.

Hell ya we do, like they said bodysurfing is the purest form of wave riding. It was invented way before surfing or bodyboarding. If this was never invented surfing wouldn't be around neither would bodyboarding!

Bodysurfing has commun points with making love (spirit, not excitement) : you feel the very importance of each part of you body, your body is lead by a superior force and you forget everything else, you feel the beauty of the wave and the delightful pain of his crash, as soon as you finish one you want another but you need to rest. I don't understand why people want to make a public event of making love. It is intimate, and you don't care about what you do is impressive or not ; bodysurfing is less impressive than surfing. Anyway, those videos make me remember that should go back to the sea.
