Supposedly, it was a DJ who mistakenly called them like that, because a song was named Butthole Surfers. They loved it so much that they decided to keep the name. Before that, they were called a variety of crazy names, including the Ashtray Baby Heads.

They were originally called something else but on their first paid gig the commentator forgot their name so just called them what their song was called. The Butthole Surfers.

I've always liked this song. When I was younger it was because of the name of the group. Now that I'm older...well...I still think the name "Butthole Surfers" is funny, but I can actually appreciate the music. Of course, I can also appreciate the music video even more.

I remember being a kid in the `90s, running off the school-bus into the house to turn on the TV and catch music videos on MTV, and this was always one of my all-time favorites. Now when I see it as a young man, I realize why it was so heavily censored. It seems like it's a parody of a high-class homicide scandal, but really I just take it as an awesome video that reminds me of a great time in my life.
