You can steer more sharply by pressing R. IDK if it would've helped or if you did this here but seeing as you weren't aware of braking I find it sorta likely.
I hope at least someone sees this cos its kinda infuriating when I see these guides on how to shield surf that come out months after release and they're clueless.

I think I shield surfed for a challenge or something in that game and never did it again. Something with the physics irked me, combined with how quickly it broke shields. Crazy seeing stuff like this though.
It has the least friction and a lot of durability. I think the only shield more durable is the Hylian Shield but it's awful for shield surfing.
