... FAKE! :-D I have to admit it's pretty well done, though. But many details give it away... 1) There's nothing less "real footage" than a staged footage trying to look real. Shaking the camera, doing a rough editing with abrupt cuts, losing and regaining focus, seriously? Nowadays even a reckless band of 12 years old can film in HD and do a clean editing of it. 2) A guy who stole a pack of dynamite wouldn't wave it SO blatantly before dropping it in the water. It's not a smoke torch! 3) Although there's a great job of compositing here, it's not perfect. Something in the splashes of water gives it away, during the explosion and afterwards (fake waves crashing at the opposite side of the pond don't look right). 4) Curled waves happen near beaches for a reason... You can't just trigger some like you'd make ripples in your bath. It would require much deeper waters than this pond + bigger explosives than these dynamite sticks. 5) The most obvious one : foam spreads atop ocean waves only! Eventually that's the most obvious trick in this video (but I agree not much could be done to digitally remove foam from an sea surf video ^^). No pond would react in such a way to strong waves, brutally as they might be triggered. Anyway, it's still a great compositing job! But a fake video nonetheless. :-)

Of course the explosion needs to produce a reflection, water by it's very nature is reflective. If you pause the video at 0:39 you can clearly see the building is obscured by the explosion yet the building is still clearly visible in the reflection of the water. Come back when you know what your talking about.

How to spot it's fake:- pause at 0:39 and you will see no reflection to the explosion, the explosion is a separate element filmed against a green screen and then added into the shot.

As a wave travels through the ocean after a huge earthquake the wave is maybe a few inches tall, traveling at over 500 mph. the second the water begins to get more shallow the wave compresses. making the wave taller. if the water was more shallow then where the dynamite a the wave amplitude will be taller. meaning u have a legit sized wave

If it was real, the surfer probably would have been dead. With the explosion being in water instead of air it much more easily transfers into your body ripping fragile things apart, for instance your lungs. Damn nice commercial though!

It's obviously two separate videos. The first one making an explosion in the water, either with real dynamite or via CGI. Then they just mix it with a video from another time where it was really bad weather and there were real waves.

Not really fake. In mythbuster they had a big lake, and the TNT was far down at the water then here. Here the dynamite is clearly floating when it explodes sec after they throw it. I think this is possible, becouse it happend in mythbusters too just not as big wave. I think it depends how u explode to make the wave.

The reason this vid is fake is because right before the surfer comes to shore after surfing there are bubbles at the shore. There weren't before he went in and the wave he was on was behind him. Its just greenscreen.

Watch the myth busters video, they dont even take into consideration the fact that you have to have a shore line to make a wave. Of course their explosion in a quarry would only make a big ripple, theres no shore line to make the wave. This video, whether fake or not, is perfectly doable.

I live in Denmark, Copenhagen where this vid takes place, and i know the lake, its 500 meter from Copenhagen centrum. It could not take place because the water depth is like 1 meter (3-4 food). There is simply to little water to makes such big waves! Peace

Everyone seems to think the video is real for some weak reason, but did anyone ever use common knowledge. Dynamite fuse would burn out when hitting water, and to time it perfectly would take more than once. But an underwater explosion does send waves in every direction, and the reality is, that those types of waves would be formed to the narrowness of the river, and the walls.

Its a lame attempt at viral marketing by Quicksilver. Good concept just badly executed with the over the top XXX type rebel guys etc... It was created by the global marketing giant Saatchi and Saatchi with permission from the authorites and they used a huge underwater air tank to create the water displacement. The stick of "dynamite" was actually nothing more than a smoke bomb.

But either way, say it is dynamite... if you really think that it would displace that much water, go do your research, because it wouldnt. MAYBE a 300lb C-4 water charge. And even then... thats a big maybe.

I have played with dynamite and I have detonated it under water and it just does not produce waves like this video. 3 sticks of dynamite would not displace that much water. As powerful as dynamite is, there is simply not enough energy in 3 sticks to move that much water.I concur with others that this was most likely a commercial.

i know nothing about surfing and i dont pretend to but i do know that the "explosive" used here would not work. because it is a fused device the needs an ignition source to detonate (the lit fuse in this case) but it was thrown into water and i think any idiot would reialise that water would put the fuse out... they used a bit osf special efects kit (a tube about an inch under water that uses compressed gas to push the water in the tube up fast) that makes a realistic "underwater explosion"

after examining you can tell that there is clearly two scenes or more here. -HOW TO TELL - pay attention to the surface of the water you will see a difference in the surface after the surfer starts surfing. PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOAM! The foam thats on the surface clearly shows that there was already many waves previous to the wave that the surfer was riding, and you can also notice at a few points that there is another wave in front of the surfer but just bearly out of view.
