It’s probably more difficult to surf pipe at 2 feet, than at 15 feet. Technically speaking. Not talking about bravery (balls).

Stuart Hayward yeah. It might be scarier or more dangerous when it’s bigger. I’m not saying that. All I was saying is that it seems tougher to surf small fast hollow waves, as opposed to bigger hollow waves. Fast and small means that your pop up has to be on point, and you need to angle your board immediately. Lotta stuff happens very fast. AND the water is barely pushing you. I prefer bigger waves. They seem to do the work for you

Evil Keali’i I surfed Pipe at 5-10 on Surfline. Surfed Waimea at 20-25 on Surfline. Log cabins. Alligators. Rocky point. I’ll surf anything, any siZe. I don’t give a shit. U don’t know who your talking to. I honestly wish there were bigger swells when I was there. I would of been out at Waimea. I frequented rickpiles and log cabins.

You’ve obviously never surfed pipe or been to Hawaii for that matter, even 15 ft haole scale would send someone like you to the shore to build sand castles

Sleeping Lion I agree with your reply in regards to "most" pop ups but not with your initial comment.
I've never feared for my life riding 2ft pipe, though I frequently have, when surfing over 10ft. Like I said, everything else is much harder and more dangerous on bigger days, paddling out / in, falling or getting caught at the peak, wash through's, or getting bounced extremely hard off the bottom. On a maxed out day, my leash broke, there was so much water moving around that I didn't make it to the beach until about Gas Chambers. None of those things happen on a 2ft day!

Stuart Hayward even easier at maxing out. It kind feathers off the outer reef, making for a more slope like wave. Easy glide entrance. It just kinda crumbles where the lip would be. Then just fade and wait into the inside barrel. When it’s smaller, the pop up is way harder. It’s just all more technically difficult when the surf is small and hollow. At least for me. When it’s bigger, u usually have more time, and all u gotta do is get up on your board. But it takes more balls.

When waves are bigger, that usually means more depth of water over the reef. I once heard that pipe is most deadly at 6 feet ( island style). Bc its way more shallow, and it pitches meanly right on the pop up.

Sleeping Lion I'm assuming you mean 15ft faces, because 15ft Island style is about MAX at pipe. Personally, I've never found a 2ft day to be harder to ride than a 2ft day, other than getting a roll-in drop from second reef. The paddling out, paddling in, getting caught inside, getting bounced off the bottom, wash through's from second or third reef, are far more challenging than surfing pipe on a 2ft day!

Nice. 30 years ago a friend of mine showed up at Pipe and it was 4'-6' faces and the locals were telling him there wasn't even a swell. Then he paddled out was was asked if he'd like some beef. Go figure.
