Because it is a fast wave and if you pull in to the barrel without looking down the line to see what the wave is going to do then you will be too deep to keep riding the barrel. Put it another way, the wave doesn't break perfect like kelly slaters wave pool, it barrels in jumps... like 3-5 metres of the wave will barrel at once then only 1 metre of the wave will barrel and then 3 metres, so you have to wait untill you see the wave "slowing down" untill you can pull in.. or rather you jsut go as fast as you can and then when it barrels over you you then have enough speed to make it out. You learn this when you start needing to make it around sections and prepare for turns, maybe like once you start doing cutbacks? like 3-4 years in maybe?

You should upload it in 60 frames. The slo-mo captured section can be played at 2x speed for the 60 frame buttery goodness. (To see what it looks like, just play the first slo-mo part of this video at 2x speed in the Chrome's Youtube player. There's a gear in the bottom right to change the playback speed.) If you want to upload it like so it's by default 60fps, you have to edit the video (post-production) so that Youtube recognizes the 60fps. I can send you some links on how to go about doing that if you're interested.

The EASIEST way to tell if it's sped up is by listening to the sound (unless he's detached the audio in post, but in this case it's all spot on), if you're not a surfer. The second video is regular speed. Take that from someone who uses GoPros regularly, both at work and in the surf. This wave looks like Desert's which is already a quick wave, but this guy is pumping to get down the line for that end section - all those variables make it look sped up. ALSO - the duckdiving surfer; watch how his leg pops up and nearly gets sliced. You can see it's very much a normal speed duckdive
