It's simply the best ad ever, in terms of creating a mystique and unstoppable sense of cool about the product, and well before the hipster phenomenon and all its fake values. I liked Guinness before it, but after this ad it was like all my art buttons got pressed every time I had another pint. This is as close to pure art as the dirty business of selling commodity to punters ever got.

+Thomas Young Agreed! The visuals are also done beautifully and somewhere, years ago, I read the back story and the dudes in it are real Hawaiian surfers, not chiselled actors or agency extras. This ad is what hipsters want to be but fail at. It has real authenticity and grit and does its job (as an ad) perfectly. Makes you want to be like those guys.

+The Hound I've never really tasted blood or iron in Guinness. It's just very dark roasted bitter and rich malt with some other undertones of flavour. Cream, yes, specially proper draught Guinness hand drawn in Ireland. It doesn't travel so well.

Yer I think it's bottled/canned in the UK and that's what I've seen. Apparently it doesn't taste no where as nice as the guinness over in Ireland which made me think us in England try to make it and ruin it.

Try my water alcohol test. Put 4 pints of good water on the table and try and drink them. The theory is that beer is a stupifyer. It switces off your reasoning ability. So you don't really know when you have had enough untill you see you have had enough. The normal messages are not getting through to you from your internal digestive system as they would with water or non narcotic liquids. There fore you drink beyond sensible or beyond the volume of a normal drink.
My qualifications are in Nutritional science. I used to be a brewer.

White horses are a common metaphor for describing the foam on white topped waves, whitecaps surf etc, used to describe rough seas, i.e. lots of white horses. This ad Looked pretty awesome. Especially the angry, wild white horses... i.e. angry wild scary surf.

@AlamoJane 'White horses' has of course long been a poetic term for the spume on breaking waves. So one could argue that the Crane painting was just a laborious metaphor. Perhaps I am just very resistant to being swayed by artistic works. Such sentiments are too easily manipulated; in this case, by mere alcohol-producers.
