To anyone wondering why this isn't FHD or even HD(although upscaled) - the camera used was an NAC Memrecam FX K5 Color.
It has a 1280x1024 sensor, and it shoots only at 1000 frames per second at that res.

When you watch random videos, the 1080p is awesome because the 360p makes some videos really blurry. Then you get to an awesome video in HD on 360p like this. You say to yourself: "If this is awesome in 360p, then how awesome would it be in 1080p?" You click on 1080p and then after hours of loading... It looks the exact same. You go out of your room and say: "WHY DID YOUTUBE DO THIS TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This is how I feel. :(

12 ft, any surfer out there wouldnt class this more than 4-5ft! even the face is only about 6-7 (for those that dont know the size of a wave isnt measured by the face, but by the crest that is formed at the back of the wave to the general sea level.) Nice wave though!

@smokeandfly86 First of all I am a respectable surfer. Second, I haven't had the privilege of surfing a 12 footer; but if I ever do, I wouldnt think twice. Imo, taking on a 12' wave doesn't require bravery. It is just a simple decision that I don't even have to think about. Maybe I'm different from other people and some people would be scared to take it on, but I sure as hell wouldnt. I urge you to name some instances where people have died from smaller waves. I highly doubt it's happened.

@rsschick12 One of three things: 1. There is absolutely no way you surf with any degree of skill, perhaps not at all. 2. You are just taking the piss. 3. You're a wannabe A 12 ft wave breaking on a shallow South Pacific reef like this is more powerful than you could even fathom. Skilled surfers die on reefbreaks considerably smaller than this. The surfer, Dylan Longbottom, is one of the worlds best big wave surfers and it requires big courage. Get a clue!

@mikmc I agree with what you're saying except for the bravery part. They're only 12 foot waves, their isn't too much danger or fear associated with waves of this size. If they were 20+ feet their would definitely be a little more bravery involved.

@son8of8vazkor well I'd say both are tough but generally sweet photos are planned out before hand. I actually heard from one of the billabong team riders that they are staged. They have 2 jet skis and they decide what wave they are going to take and then one jet ski drops the camera man into a desirable position while the other gets the rider into the wave.

@saidknee1990 the key is here what kind of FPS you are shooting a footage ! A HD cam could handle lets say 25 FPS which gives you amazing quality but if you try to slow the footage down you will see its getting choppy/laggy. If you buy an HD cam and want to have nice Slow motions makre sure you buy one which can recrord more FPS (for example 50 FPS). Than you will see if you play a footage recorded with 50 FPS but playing with 25 FPS a smooth and clear slow motion. cheers !
