Thanks man!! Have been surfing occasionally for a few years but this summer (NZ) I've been going out every other day and really wanting to improve. I've been struggling with breaking the muscle memory habit of using my knees. Watched your video twice last night, went out today and I'm instantly a better surfer!!! I went out surfing today for the first time with no instruction
I'm pretty sure I did EVERYthing wrong in this video lol

I've been out a bunch of times now, if you just lie on the board, the waves will take you to shore
I always go alone but only surf where I can see other surfers, I live in California so there's always people
It is SO much fun, I always come out feeling completely relaxed and happy the whole day, try it!

Yes he is. Most of the surf sessions. Some times I joined more experienced surf groups at other spots but then I tried to soak up as much knowledge from them and other instructors as I could.

Mistake #2 instruction has fixed my pop-up by not moving my back foot while doing the pop-up into my stance for the drop. Mistake #5 has corrected my reentry so my front foot doesn't come off the board after smacking the lip. Thanks Guys!

So I’m a 54kg female at 160cms tall (or short). What would be the longest mini mal or mini sims that I could learn to duckdive & move up as a beginner surfer? I can pop up on a 7” fish funboard most times & find the foamies too limiting. Any advice?

Jules canidoit exactly. You're exactly right. Practice, have fun, enjoy the journey and enjoy the ocean. The point I was making is that to progress to performance surfing (which this guy is trying to do) get the basics first on a bigger board because you'll have more fun in my opinion. But again that's my opinion.

Heres a trick. Get what ever board u like and practice practice and practice and if u feel like yr going nowhere yr doing something right cause yr not giving up. Eventually u work out shit and then u drive home and say to yr self fuck i stood up . You dont give up. Practice practice and enjoy the journey.

Tony MacSwayne yeah totally agree, or they learnt as kids, which isn't fair cos kids can learn anything easily haha.
This video was good actually, I have not surfed for over a year after 6 months of learning, and am now going to be moving back, so I thought it would be good to make sure I don't make any silly mistakes when I do.

Stomp It Tutorials I made this mistake and spent alot of sessions frustrated. Some people will argue and say 'i learnt on a shortboard, just stick with it rah rah rah' but those people have lived by a surf break their whole lives.

Travis Tran go for a mid length board around 7 foot but with a round nose.
