Your toes shouldnt always be on the edge like that, it all depends on the board. If i did that with my 5'11 it would be fully submerged. If you do that on a long board and your still not balanced right it wont work Find your sweet spot regardless of whether or not your toes are on the edge of the tail.

Cheers for this, I've been looking for "surfing information for beginners" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Feyvid Surfers Semitist - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got cool results with it.

i started 3 weeks ago. live near the ocean. go as much as you can unless you need some muscle recovery time (48hrs!). paddle a costco soft top and swallow your pride. they feel toyish on smaller waves, but on bigger ones you will benefit. paddle deep but try not to get your heart rate up too much..and definitely learn turtle rolls. dont grab your rails when getting up, but ive felt grabbing a rail on the drop in after im up is helping with that first "carve" or whatever if it has a name. learn where the peak is and spot how and when the best way to paddle there is. if i get caught inside i just ride the whitewash in and walk on the beach and paddle out wide again, saves energy for me at least.

Just a question, I'm interested in surfing, if your over 70 kg (Australian) would you prefer surfing and is that a chance of weight loss? I'd like to surf but parents say I'm overweight and I'll die in the water even though I go to swimming lessons, also my dad told me sharks would get me so I got scared.
