How To Surf | Positioning To Catch & Surf More Waves EVERY TIME
Surf 5 years ago 45,405 views
In this video Kale teaches you how to position yourself in the ocean so that you can catch more waves in the surf. Positioning is something very difficult to teach because, in reality, it requires hours of time in the water analysing waves and learning about their habits and patterns. That being said though, we think we’ve done a fine job of getting you started on this journey or speeding up your progress at the very least. There are two major factors when it comes to analysing waves and positioning yourself accordingly in the surfing lineup. 1: the specific wave itself you want to catch AND 2: the spot you are surfing (the conditions on the day essentially). This is the most detailed guide on positioning in the surf that you'll find on the internet and we're proud to be sharing it with you. If you'd like to come and learn more from myself & Ryan personally, we encourage you to come to our surf retreat this year at Whale Beach in Sydney; Sydney's most uncrowded and pristine beach. Even if you sit in breaking point, waves might close out.
Local shaper who living in northern beaches catches waves much more than others including myself.
He sit in bit close to the beach and aiming to catch smaller waves which have more space to turn.
Besides he can manage board choices and building for types of waves.
Paddling techniques are definitely necessary I guess.

This might be dumb question but what the heck...I recently started surfing, I've been doing it for 3 months and I'm completely hooked.
I started surfing on a soft-board, size 8.6', now, I have a transition board, Bic Malibu 7.9, at this point I'm still acquiring basic skills and confidence with each wave I catch.
looking forward, I can't imagine moving to a short board, it looks way to, well...short!
When I surf an 8.6' or a 7.9' my legs are on the board, because It's long enough, this helps me to pop up to a standing position, because I have a firm surface to leap off of (maybe this is a mistake....?) can you please demonstrate how to correctly position yourself and pop up on a short board?
