how the hell this is a valid wave for an entry at WLS competition? I cant see the surfer not even at slow motion. At this footage only the jetski gets spotted.

See link below!!! Até que enfim uma visão decente/ at last some decent view on Hugos WAve!!!! Teve de ser a redbull! Depois de ver esse video conclui-se que a onda do Hugo foi a maior do dia mas não o maior drop pois surfa no cotovelo). Atrevo-me a dizer que a do Alex Muniain mete mais respeito. No entanto, depois de ver tantas filmagens vindas do forte já penso ser altura de ter uma equipa de filmagem profissional (como a que o Garret trouxe no primeiro ano de campanha). Sem querer desdenhar o trabalho do drone das produções da Máquina Voadora, parece-me estar na altura dum Helicóptero , como fazem em Jaws. Penso que isto dos recordes é para alimentar os media. Este dia foi acima dos outros, e muitos surfaram ondas de vários tipos e que ficarão no HALL OF FAME do forte de S. Miguel Arcanjo. Mas mesmo assim e que tenha sido filmado só existe uma onda que pode ter sido maior que a do Garrett e que foi surfada no limite! A onda do Benjamim Sanchis em 11 Dezembro de 2014 e que foi, uma insider, poderá ficar na maior onda surfada de todos os tempos que ficará para sempre no esquecimento simplesmente porque a WSL a colocou no Wipeout of the year de 2014. You can see a really small black dot moving to right. On the left it's the motorcycle and the surfer moves to the right at the top of the wave. Difficult to see, someone should highlight him.

O Surfista está no canto esquerdo, no site da WSL o vídeo tem maior resolução e em camara lenta é possível ver o Hugo a afastar-se da mota de água e depois o rastro da prancha até à onda rebentar é quase sempre visível, e dá para ver o Hugo quando está mais nítido. Só quando a onda rebenta é que deixa de aparecer onde está o Hugo Vau.
Sigam o rastro da prancha, que se vê até à crista da onda, principalmente quando a "nuvem" tapa menos a onda, torna-se mais visível o rastro.

Infelizmente a coloração chique-merda do vídeo torna impossível continuar a ver o surfista a partir de determinada altura à maioria dos olhos, inclusive os meus.

Monster movie- but I wish there were more shots from another perspective (water, beach) than just this highly elevated position with lots of telephoto foreshortening. Always hard to get a true wave height from these high positions. Makes the wave look bigger due to no bottom leveling. "However".....on waves this big, it's like saying Godzilla is only 400 feet tall, not 375ft.

Not an official way to measure i guess, but: When the wave breaks i count 2.7 seconds free fall water:aprox 35.7 meters. I use 9.8 acceleration cause its an avalanche type wave, not tube...

Clement Doherty My bad, I thought he was nominated. If he didn't then I assume it's either because he turned around and went right or because it's too hard to measure the wave in this view, because I've read eye witness reports from locals saying it was one of the biggest waves they'd ever seen. And I've seen another video where you can trace him quite a bit better than here almost halfway through the ride when he turns around.

Well the WSL didnt even nominate it for their top 5 wave nominations for the biggest wave surfed in the last 12 months. So either they don't have better footage of the wave and ride, or, it is just not that big (which I doubt as the wave looks huge even if the footage is grainy). Either way RCJ's and Koxa's waves were probably just as big....

Clement Doherty What reason do you have to call bullshit? Pretty sure WSL have the raw footage in high quality and the software to process it and determine whether someone is on the wave or not before allowing it into the contest. Also you can actually see him on some processed videos online for a bit. He actually noped out and went right just before falling into that mountain and probably being killed immediately. Smart decision

I have seen a far better video of this wave and it does pick up the surfer, he actually goes right on the wave. The footage was still grainy but you can see he about to bail and the wave compared to him is at least 12x his his height and probably more like 15x, Possibly the largest ever wave ridden imo....

Agree, maybe its bullshit? Saw a ski going right no surfer on the wave going left or right. Its sounds like the Ken Bradshaw 85 foot wave in 1998 to me a bit of a myth. I am not disputing he didn't ride it but not seeing a surfer on the wave lends to people over exaggerating the size of it as nothing to judge the wave against. Hopefully some better footage turns up.

Não é a qualidade do vídeo, nem mesmo o sol Edi Santos. Penso que é mesmo os tons de cor do vídeo estupidamente manipulados. O céu nesse dia estava azul. As fotos pelo menos não mostram o ambiente sépia do vídeo.
