Jeep in surf part 2 updated

Got video loaded right this time . We had to wait for low water to recover the jeep as my big 4x4 wrecker lost a tie rod end next to the surf line . We were still 2 hours to high tide so we spent an hour dragging and winching muy International out of the surf line . We took the Heavy recovery Kenworth down in the morning at low water winched the Jeep out and then winched the wrecker down to the hard sand . I spent 4 hours yesterday getting front suspension back together and will repair hubs and blown hydraulic line today . Made for a long night

The tow ornament on the front of the jeep had no top to it so we couldn't boom out and lift on it . The hook curved backward about 1/4 inch .

It actually was starting to lift when the tow ornement in the front snapped off . If it had actually had a tow ring it would have come right out . This jeep does have decent tow eyes in the rear but they were buried under the sand .

Wouldn't you either back up more or extend the jib so it's lifting the front up first a bit safer that way seen a video of an operator cop the tow hook in the head and died 3 days later there really should be mandatory training sessions for towies i've witnessed some real wankers in oz
Hill Auto Body & Towing
Hill Auto Body & Towing - 6 years ago
if you watched vid this is what i did on second attempt . I tried a quick attempt first as this wrecker is a bugger to free wheel out the cables as they backlash . if those hooks has been real hooks it would have come out . I was goig for a quick recovery as i do not like having my trucks on the beach .

What kind of water head retard would take his vehicle that close to the water. ? I wonder if that things ever going to run again. It definitely needs to be flushed with fresh water to get rid of the salt. Maybe they got lucky enough that water didn't get inside the cab. it looks like it might be a rental vehicle because of the out-of-state license plate that looks like a Nevada license plate.

when your tires are sunk in wet sand it is almost impossible to dig them out . The more you dig the water just washes more sand into the hole . If someone had been there and applied just a little tug it would have come right out . Unfortunately the front tires were in so deep they acted like an anchor . Spinning tires in wet sand is a recipe for disaster

Also use a piece of wood 2 x 6 in between the tire and the aluminum rail you’ll keep from damaging the tires are trying to climb over the rail I think you guys are amateurs. And use some wheel straps on it in stead of the chains everybody knows the chains can shake loose. For sure it’s broken after you guys pulled it out if it wasn’t broken before.
Andy Harris
Andy Harris - 6 years ago
These guys were looking for a major pay day bringing up that big truck all you needed was a flatbed The guy that hook the cable on with the big tow truck they cut away the video when they broke the cable connection. A good turnbuckle would not put so much stress on your cable. And if it’s locked in gear dishwashing soap will help and slide across the bed since you have a smooth bed I think these boys need to go back for some training.
The Nate Debate
The Nate Debate - 6 years ago
Getting taken away on a flatbed is just insult to injury, the only saving grace would have been to drive it away. But they’d probably just get stuck again judging off their initial performance

Are you people fucking stupid? I have only watched enough so far to be able to see that you actually try to pull the Jeep out with it completely buried in sand. Every part of my being is just screaming for you not to do that. Even if you somehow managed to get the vehicle out that way, with what is probably a half-million pounds of suction on it, that poor Jeep will be forever mangled afterwards. The frame will never be straight again... The only option in a situation like this is to start digging! Trying to pull a vehicle out like that without digging first is just vehicle-suicide... Besides... Without having watched the video I'm going to make a prediction that it doesn't work very well anyways.

Hill Auto Body & Towing.... whoa dude nothing I said indicated that I thought this was done on purpose, it’s just that your rig & the Jeep look to be on the same plane and if you leave a vehicle on the beach at low tide the back and forth of the tide will bury it.... maybe that’s not the case here but I’ve seen that happen.
Hill Auto Body & Towing
Hill Auto Body & Towing - 6 years ago
What you talkin bout Willis ???
He stopped next to a low spot on the beach got out and was taking pictures of the Sunset . The place where he stopped was a steep bank sloping down towards a low spot on the beach . If you notice the 4 door jeeps have the ground clearance of of a dwarf Corgi . I've pulled these style jeeps of little sand dunes where they high centered and buried themselves . This is a grocery getter built to go to drive around on snow or ice not to off roading . The off road version is a completely different beast . More suspension bigger tires actually a pretty good looking rig .
Your assumption that this was done on purpose is wrong .

Did the Jeep owner take into account, that they don't have sand tires in their vehicle?
Or
That you shouldn't park your Jeep there?
Or it's harder to got out of sinking sand?
Or that they shouldn't be so close to the ocean, in high tide?
Did the Jeep owner take any of these things into account?
Someone needs to tell them to go to
"OFF ROAD SCHOOL"!
They'd learn alot.
Did they deflate the street tires to get better traction?
This is hard to watch,
Jeeps are good trucks, when utilized properly!
This wasn't the case here.

It's astonishing to me that operators with such equipment have so little training on how to use it; just hooking up to a stock tow hook and trying to wrench the vehicle out with a forward pull??? I'd say you tow boys owe those folks a new tow hook, at the least. To have a wrecker that size and not at least attempt to pull the vehicle straight up into the air, to start with? Please.
Stick the F-ing boom out, already and go vertical. You're killing me!!!
Brandon Brown
Brandon Brown - 6 years ago
They build a hook capable of recovering the weight of the vehicle attached. It was not intended or thought of to recover a vehicle stuck window deep with the weight of wet sand on it plus the suction. You were pulling at least 1-2 tons more than the weight of the jeep at first to break it free and relieve pressure/suction.

Hell even mud boggers who sink dig first if needed so not to break stuff if possible. That first pull may as well have been pulling it through a concrete wall with the extra force holding the jeep back. If its above the horizontal center line of the tire on a dead vehicle lift first and don't pull against the suspension and nature. Its not hard.
Hill Auto Body & Towing
Hill Auto Body & Towing - 6 years ago
Did just that . If Jeep had done a better job building a tow hook not a tow ornament it would have come right out . The jeep started to come up but the ornemental tow hook failed . I did not run bom out at first as it is a pain on this truck to free wheel the cables as they backlash so horribly . The whole winching system on this Jerrdan is poorly conceived

I kept my truck back from the hole the jeep left and I kept my spades down so the tires wouldn't sink in . I should have showed the front tires . The jeep was at the surf line with 3 more hours to high tide .

OFRD if you have never been on the beach when the tide came in you do not know what happens. The whole underside of that jeep is sucked into the sand and it fills every nook. If you noticed in the video when they dug in front of the jeep it filled with water. The sand just falls back in at that point. With high tide 2 hours away, as stated in the video, by the time they dug out the jeep it would be swamped with sand again. I have seen whole vehicles swallowed by sand when waves reach them.

First day on the job, I'm guessing? The transfer case would have gone into neutral just fine before you bound up the drivetrain by pulling on the jeep while it was in park. There is also a little thing called a shifter interlock bypass / manual over ride next to the shifter of almost every newer car..Especially mopars like that jeep jk, it's right next to the fucking shifter. You can put the trans in neutral in about 10 seconds. Well anyone who can tie their shoes can.... Did you really think you were going drag a 4,500 lb jeep with 3,000 lbs of wet sand out with that one little factory tow hook? Really? How stupid are you? The odds that you diamond the frame are much better than that of that tow hook was doing anything. Freinds don't let freinds who are idiots operate roll offs or anything with a winch...Good thing I'm not your freind and just here to point out that you don't have a fucking clue what you are doing. I feel sorry for the owner of your trucks, the owner of anything you touch, the insurence company, and any shop that has to fix anything you touch....

I'd give a grand for it if the frame didn't get tweaked pulling it out. Perfect candidate for a Cummins 4BT transplant
Jeffrey Yeip
Jeffrey Yeip - 6 years ago
Missingremote, that would be the easy part. Just get under it with a pressure washer. The hard part would be stripping all of the interior which on a Jeep Wrangler it wouldn't be that bad. The you drain the differentials fill them up with kerosene spin the tires by hand quite a few times to let the kerosene rinse all the crud down to the bottom. Drain and refill with lube. The engine, electronics and transmission would be quite a lot more work. That's why I would put a Cummins in it

Over 20 years experience in towing and recovery under my belt, and this was amature hour for sure.. they didnt even need the boom truck.. just lift it straight up by front bumper hooks tying the wheel lift on the flatbed (AFTER you dig out all the wheels.. at least the fronts) drag it out, drop it, and winch it up the bed.. simple.. this was either a blatant attempt to jack up the recovery bill KNOWING the insurance company would pay up, or just a bunch of rookies.... either way, that boom truck was overkill and unnecessary at best... and not even utilized properly... smh..

Or even better, the ones that actually do the towing, show us how it's not done. Seems like that truck probably cost a bit to purchase, then maintain. Someone in the position to operate said machine "should" have knowledge of angles, weight distribution, etc. A vehicle stuck in wet sand, above the tires? "Let's just hook on to the stock tow hook. What-a-ya say? Huh, didn't work!"

My thoughts exactly. The only thing worse than hooking it up to the stock tow hook and pulling straight forward would be to have wrapped the winch cable around the outside of the bumper and trusted that for a straight forward pull...with the axles under wet sand.
If I had little knowledge enough to do what these operators did, I wouldn't have put it on camera. Geez.
"Hey y'all, this'er Jeeps stuck up to the frame. How's about we hook onto it and wrench it outta there with my 1/2 inch cable and put 20,000 lbs. a pull on it . We'll see if them stock (5,000 lbs.) tow hooks is worth a damn."

When you are wheeling everyone wants a TJ because theyre one of the easier, and yeah cheaper of the wranglers, and obviously smaller than the XJ and ZJ, a 4.0l TJ is probably one of, if not the most sought after wheeling jeep, which was still made by chrysler

Chrysler is in oblivion. Fiat is considering keeping only Jeep and Ram and killing Chrysler. Those two account for about 90% of their profits.

Michael Werbick but it looks nice anyway until they tried to make a boat out of it yes you're right CJ7 is one of the most sought-after Jeeps ever and sorry for your loss

maybe its not every JK, but I own a 2015 and the interior is easily stripped down. Carpet, console and rear seats are all removable.

I love my Rubicon JKU. I haven't seen anyone travel the old rubicon trail. I have driven the Rubicon trail many times and Fordyce with no issues. Having the features of the JKU Rubi saved money on installing air lockers and sway bar quick disconnects.

name first wrong...it's the cheapest. The most sought after is the CJ 7. People just can't afford them. I had a CJ5 and someone tossed a cigarette in the back and burnt it down. I got $15k. Back in '91. It would be about $40 today

You realize the most sought after jeep, the TJ, was designed and built by Chrysler, right?

Snactimus Maximus that i could get on board with if i lived on the coast. Unfortunately i live in central canada. So heating is a must on -30 days. Radio doesn’t hurt either, music is pretty important. Reason i purchased a base model sport, and have been building it the way i want it. Said and done, it’ll be better than a stock rubi, for under 35k

Will it stop an arrow Spoken like a true IGNORANT LITTLE twat. I have news for ya, none of jeeps have cost me anything other than oil and fluid changes. That's normal maintenance on ALL vehicles. You can go back to school sonny jim.

Yah I had one for a few years. I mean even more basic. No Center stack, or plastic dash, radio etc. Just wayyy back to basics. If you could get a stripped rubicon with the dana44’s tripped locked, and disco sway bars in a super stripped JK i bet it’d be a lot cheaper than they are now. Those new JL rubicon’s go up to $55k or some crazy shit like that.

Snactimus Maximus they come like that already. If you look into them a little more you’d find that the carpet snaps out, revealing drain plugs in the floor. The interior is pretty water resistant.

The JK is not only the most popular jeep ever but the most prepared for modification. I’m pretty sure they’ve done great with them. Though, I’d like one without an interior just metal and seats, but whatever.

I disagree stan. I think that Chrysler made wonderful changes to the YJ. A lot of people would say that they did a great job with the TJ. I would say they at least didn't fuck it all up with the TJ.

Jeep has been junk since the day Chrysler took over ownership and building of them. However, it did help save Chrysler's ass from sinking into oblivion.

oh, it was up to window level of the doors, so pretty much 98% totaled. even crystal clear perfect drinking water would total it.
there's unsealed wire splices and terminals everywhere, liquids leech into and wick way into the wiring harness, sure it may work ok for now if you clean the connectors, but it wont be long. then add in all the electro-mechanical things, like transmission, fans engine parts.
it's only good for someone to strip to bare body/frame and make into a dedicated off-road/racing, get rid of every single wire, and electronic part and start with fresh basic wire harness :)

It blows my mind how many calls this channel gets for people overestimating their abilities and vehicles on the beach. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. You will pay for this mistake.

Out of curiosity, would there be any reason why you cannot reverse almost directly over the sanded-in jeep and hoist straight up to dump some of the sand first or it is too firmly gripped? A little up and down agitation to liquify the wet sand might bring it free. The downside might be making the rear wheels of your truck puddle the sand and sink down in it.

The boom truck could have extended the boom and done just that. In fact should have after digging out the front some. It would have been a quick extraction and done.
