Hehe. I've surfed for 28 years now. Can we be friends Kelly?
If everyone surfed the biggest problem in the world today would be crowded breaks and when the next swell was coming!
In one of sports most difficult and demanding sports. Not just dangerous. Death defying. Slater a true legend who has changed surfing and who brings a sense of the surfing mindset to this interview. I started surfing at South Patrick near Kelly's home town Cocoa Beach in 1962 when there were less than 50 people surfing in Brevard County. It's crazy looking back, and seeing where it is today.
surfing differs from making Hollywood surfing themed movies and modeling surf wear etc, differs from contest surfing in the context of commercialization. You're comment is confusing, to say the least.

There are more videos about his health habits for those interested, he is likely one of the healthiest 40+ year olds on the planet.
People have gone home after they've been resuscitated and then drowned in their sleep.
Thats why you should always stay the night at a hospital for observation after a near drowning, just in case.
He sounds like a genius to me
Rogan- Ear drum, Ear drum, Ear Drum
Fair point.
If people want to see god or whatever........let em do it.
this is not an accurate interpretation of Kelly Slater
It was winter storm surf, the water was 4° C (just above freezing). The buoy reading was 15’ at 15 seconds. The larger set waves were 20’-25’ on the face. I caught two lefts. I was paddling back out when a larger outside wave caught me, rag-dolled me, and drilled me to the bottom. I was 43 but in great shape. I was no worse for wear. Till three days later.
For five years I could barely walk. The chronic pain was brutal. I’ve spent three years now in proper rehab. Have been able to work the last two. I won’t ever be able to surf again. I can’t even exercise yet. I’ve only been able to walk briskly the last couple months.
It all began surfing a day I’d worked toward for ten years. As it turns out, it wasn’t just the surf. I’d had 13 major surgeries as a child. Apparently that left me vulnerable 30 years later to my entire body saying “We’re not doing this anymore.”
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
It’s was like being in a car accident. People always say, “If you get in a car accident and think you’re ok, don’t say that to the insurance ppl bc the damage caused can take a few days or weeks to ramp up.”
Aside from surgeries, I had a condition in my 20s of spinal fluid buildup that created a huge amount of pressure in the spine. It was like Meningitis (which I’ve also had) x 3. My current therapists believe these earlier conditions created a situation that couldn’t sustain itself after the surf accident.
Out of nowhere some dick head cop walks up throws some mask in front of this guy Bohdi and starts rambling on about Mexico and Fiji. Bohdi didn't seem to like the guy. Long story short they start fighting. It was a good fight. Worked it's way into the water and cop ended up handcuffing this guy Bohdi to his own arm. Bohdi went nuts and begged this guy to let him go so he could surf these massive waves.
All kinds of cops started showing up. I was nervous. But that cop uncuffed him and Bohdi got on his board and paddled out. Those cops were pissed at this dude for letting him go. But they said we'll get him when he comes back in.
The cop said "He ain't coming back." And he threw his badge into the water and walked away.
Bohdi was never seen again.
Florida's finest.
They normally land on sand bars in the middle of rivers in alaska, and only need 100 feet or so for a safe take off.
K Slate is a savage. Great podcast...one of the few where Joe kinda asks good questions and shuts up
"Riding Giants" Stacey Perralta made. It is outstanding.
