Like in this case Julian just didn't make it happen. Too many falls, a lot of mistakes, mistiming and rails catching. Cardoso won this heat fairly but the fact he was in it at all is a damn shame

Cardoso just got through heats because he didn't fall, he completed the wave and a million ugly hacks along the way. There's no conspiracy, just shitty surfing from the best surfers in the world that let this clown advance. This competition started so well with great surfing and great waves, a lot of deserving competitors put away, but everything from the quarterfinals on was horrible

I am brazilian and i can say that both of them didnt deserve to be in this final. Jordy and Kalohe were robbed against Julian and Toledo against Cardoso. Besides that, Julian had more variety and got the scored for it. Panda was a little bit overscored in his waves but even so he deserved the victory because of his waves selection and strong maneuvers.

Julian's surfing is far more stylish and creative. Cardoso looks strong but not smoothe or creative. To my eye there is no question that Wilson is the better surfer and he showed it here. Apparently the 'judges' know better.

Cardoso surfed well for 1990. Couple of safe, non progressive turns, and the commentators and crowd go crazy? Other than a handful of guys pro surfing is going in the wrong direction. Thousands of people could have done what Cardoso did.

I guess you don't watch boxing,otherwise you would be scratching your retinas or popping an eye out after some judging decisions. For a sport based on human judging and subjective criteria surfing is one of the less corrupts for sure.

No i'll keep it together. I will however bawl my eyes out over 2 particular surfers. Wilko, and Mikey. That QF against Michel in Fiji. Bourez was absolutely robbed. Got shacked every single wave. Wilko fell short but due to the Oz judge factor, he Got the nod.

Wether Cardoso did get overscored for doing the same turn again and again or not, just be happy for him! I was cheering for Julian but he didn't get the waves he needed in this final and Cardoso did a better job! Congrats Willian, big up!

I don't think he got overscored his competitors just underperformed. I mean Julian fell several times on good waves that could've gotten him scores and the same was true of everyone who let this guy beat them. It's rad that he managed to pull it off but it sucks that a guy with monotonous, ugly surfing is winning CT contests

Guy Thompson and these 10 points for one manuver is crazy! I think it was the comp before this one, I can't remember who it was but the guy got 10 for a 360 air and 2 ok manuver's on a so so wave! The air was good,maybe a 8.5 or something but not a 10!

DJ Shaun Reed ya i can agree with that.. the exact same backhand snap 300 times .. but same thing with italo. Jordy lost heat with him at keramas when he got a 10 by like 0.2 & his backup was nearly an 8 with same snap repeated over & over. Jordy mixes his turns up so much, just want judges to start rewarding it. Why put ‘variety of maneuvers’ in scoring criteria. Also sad for kolohe he is incredible should have easily won an event by now. But ya bro i hear u. Often wake up at crazy times to watch & then have to see blatant cheating from judges again & again.. really getting over it. Barron beat italo easily in rd 2 of keramas too & jeremy’s blowtail was sic in quarters was score easily ..

This sport is so subjective. I like to watch these guys compete, but it can get frustrating at times. The judging is necessary but becomes unfortunate often. It's okay for me that Cardoso won. But the decision easily could have gone either way. Judging this sport is like judging ice skating competitions. Again very subjective. Competitive surfing also has poor rules and inconsistent point systems. That priority rule sends the wrong idea to novice surfers as well.

Eu sinceramente, não acho as notas dadas pelos juízes injustas. Algumas vezes não concordo, como você ou qualquer outro, mas acho que os juízes acertam muito mais do que erram em seus julgamentos, até porque é evidente que eles entendem todos os critérios mais do que qualquer um de nós.

This decision could have gone either way. Good for Cardoso swaying the judges his way. I have learned that if you replace any one of these judges in the booth for many contests, there's a good chance you'll have different results. So, I look at this sport as a form of entertainment only. It's imprecise and nonobjective to say the least.

Eu vou dizer que tenho visto muito ódio por Medina. No entanto, tenho notado mais reclamações dos brasileiros do que de qualquer outra pessoa. Quatro dos cinco principais são brasileiros no momento e ainda há reclamações constantes sobre eles serem tratados injustamente. Além disso, o fato de você ter dito que eu estava fazendo uma birra no outro vídeo me faz pensar que você está apenas enganando. Só porque eu digo que há um monte de whiners não me faz um chorão ... Se eu vejo um americano ou australiano que está jogando um ataque só porque seu surfista perdeu (especialmente quando eles mereciam perder), eu vai dizer o mesmo para eles.

Leio os comentários dos australianos e americanos, quando atletas desses países perdem, em particular contra os atletas brasileiros, e sempre também reclamam chorosos, outras vezes agressivos e preconceituosos. Aliás, há algum tempo nos chamam de brazzos...tenho certeza que isto não tem um tom amigável e é carregado de preconceito e desprezo.

@Guy Thompson, Even if I had their age and ability to be a professional surfer, I would have a terrifically difficult time dealing with the scoring. It's no wonder Toledo stormed the judging tower during one contest. I personally think the judges should count all waves for each surfer and then tally them up. Whoever has the most points wins. Now they take and judge only the two highest scoring rides for each surfer? That's not fair. I have seen heats whereby one surfer has many very good waves and still loses to another surfer who surfed only two, but those two where the highest scoring waves. Nobody cares, but I don't think they have a good set of rules.
