Nice wave. Looks like it would be fun for a period of time.
I get the feeling that its a capitalist idea. Not really what most people think when they think of surfing, and i'm sure it'll be marketed differently, but just look at quiksilver etc. They were prepared to put their label on anything.
The other vibe I get from this is an elitist or narcisstic feeling. A case of look at what we have. You can look but cant touch. Unless youve got lots of money, then you can borrow it. Hell if youve got bucket loads we'll pretend to be your friends.
Maybe i'm just a pessimist.

First off I like Kelly Slater, he and his team are brilliant. I see it as a tool for the professional surfers keeping and tuning up their moves on a wave or a tool from a tool box to help them correct their mistakes. On another note or thought it can get quite boring. I enjoy the Ocean the breezes the walks along the shoreline, the fact that every wave you catch has its own variations never to quite repeat itself. Waves on demand is not my cup of tea. That said I am sure I would like to ride those waves who wouldn't? I just prefer the ocean. Nature, rocks, paddling out taking in the views the pelicans the sand crabs all of that and much more. It is wonderful to feel and see. a surf park is like having a place to practice like at the Olympics or some other sport like golfing going to a driving rrange and hitting out of a sand trap, to help you improve. catch my drift.

Anyone know if this wave pool is fresh water? Assuming it is, how much does that effect the surfing performance? Saltwater is more buoyant. I’ve surfed both fresh and salt and even at my skill level, I noticed a difference.

Oxyrisen Fresh water. They use eps / epoxy there for the extra buoyancy.

No worries. I like for people to tell it like it is. On a budget over here and my gear is old schoolie so that plays into the video quality for sure. I love the ocean but would jump at a chance to surf this pool. Looks really fun in person. I have not been given an opportunity to surf it though.

EpicSurfNews you know what I apologize. It was uncalled for I've never been to the place so I don't know what the setup is. I do know this, I would like to go there someday just to feel what it's like to compare the difference between the wave pool I surfed in Texas back in 89. yeah I know although in 89 I was surfing in the men's division but I was a Junior the PSAA didn't have a junior division .Check out my little Bio will give you a little feedback on what I'm about. One more thing I was wondering did you get to Surf it and what was your opinion if you did?

Where's the sense of aesthetics? the WSL could have made an effort to cover and hide that horrible machine the surfers are facing as they ride the wave. Steve Jobs would have called this a defective product and would have sent back the engineers and designers to the drawing board. As it is it's like driving a car with the engine on the passenger seat... "American wave machine" and the Cove by Wave Garden are much more aesthetic and exciting to watch. Also notice KS wave behaves like a tidal bore rather than a real wave. The WSL is trying to sell us this pool as something revolutionary when Wave Garden has been doing these as their first generation wave pool model for years already. Now they've moved on to much better things. The WSL should probably partner with "american wave machine" or "wave garden" unless KS Pool is working on better wave generation technologies.
