Very cool! I'm from Buffalo, N.Y., originally, and now live in Santa Cruz, CA. The water probably isn't much colder (maybe even warmer) than out here. Great job, glad to see this! :)

Most of Wa state surfing is soup this Lake surfing looks far better than Wa State any day. Getting to Westport from Seattle is starting to take 4 hours and coming back could take 6 .

I lived in Seattle for five years! I'm not a surfer, but it's cool to watch. In Santa Cruz they have "Mavericks" a world-wide surfing contest. Thanks for your reply. :)

Word. I'm from Seattle, Washington where, about 100 miles away there are many epic breaks on or connecting with the Pacific. And I can tell you that seeing this footage, witnessing waves as good as these FOR A LAKE is really inspiring stoke. Too bad you have to wait perhaps weeks before any decent swell generates, but it would be worth it nonetheless.

+Michael DeRyder I'd love to see you paddle out on the lakes with a 6mm suit, booties, gloves, hood, I'd say Vaseline on your face but you wouldn't be smart enough to even know that, and your little Billy Whitebread thruster with its 6" of entry rocker. I'm sure it'd make for some comical footage with some Keystone cops music in the background. and then there's this "Go to college where there's waves" if you were in college you should know it would be there are waves, not there is waves. ah, the dumbing down of America. just stay at your totally radical local break and leave the Great Lakes to the ones in the know. thanks in advance.

+Michael DeRyder You lack appreciation of science. To find waves on a LAKE with limited fetch that are this good always amazes me. You're like the football fan who can't stand an OT game because it means their team didn't crush their opponent. You don't really like a good game, but participate only to massage your own ego. the guys in this vid are surfing pretty good. i see worse style at my beach every day. plus these waves look very very fun. i wish it looked like this tomorrow morning at my beach, i would be stoked... but i know its gonna be barely thigh high... however our water is gonna be about 80! so a bit warmer...

That was such a fun day. I wish I wasn't wearing a 2/3 with garabage boots. I only could handle being out for about 2 hours before I started cramping. Awesome time though. Better then anytime I had while live in VB.

Pretty often, especially during the fall. I go out sometimes 5 + days per week during October and November when it's prime. This particular day was insane though...we we're out there for probably 3-5 hours and the sets just kept rolling all day long. It is rare to have a day that good...probably 3 times per fall, but this day was even exceptional for the rare clean swells we get.

I surfed in Lake Erie when I was in my 20's, but only about 10 times. When I went, it was only me or just 3-5 other people. I never saw a crowd like in this video. How wonderful that this is catching on. I remember the longest I could stay in the water was about 30 minutes max. I now only surf when on vacation in warm waters. I am not the greatest surfer, but I enjoy it so much. I still have all my cold gear though. Maybe I will have another go at Lake Erie..... brrrrrrr :)
