Try to pop-up earlier so that you bring your body weight on the tail of the board and the nose comes up.

Hi. I am a beginner and when a wave gets bigger, it often gets steeper and I tend to nose-dive a lot. I have tried shifting my weight but I am still nose-diving. I've read a lot about angle and paddling for a wave diagonally towards the shoulder but I don't understand, could you clarify this for me? This would really help me out! Thanks

Probably not paddling hard enough before the takeoff and/or weight too far forward.

a good rule of thumbs for me is this: When you paddle around, the very tip of the board needs to stick out of the water about 1 to 2 inches. you can also compensate by arching your back to throw the weight back. Also paddling really hard to match the speed of the wave as close as possible helps you stay in front of the steeper part of the wave at the very top.

practice your pop-ups on land until you can constantly pop-up quickly. Then when you start to take off on a wave you have to just go for it and with enough practice you will be able to stand up right when it takes you

Keep practising. As you become more confident you will begin to 'Pop up' quicker and prior to reaching the bottom of the wave.

Try lying a little further back on the board. Not too much mind else you will constantly miss the wave.
