Hi Auriel, you misinterpreted me :) I meant Coney Island in New York, which the Vagabrothers claim is named after the island in Sligo. But this is not the case, as New York, or rather New Amsterdam, was founded by the Dutch and consequently, a lot of placenames stem from that era.
The Irish island's name has undoubedtly derived from the Gaelic word. I don't doubt that :)
