Puerto Escondido, Mexico is world famous for the massive waves at its surf beach, Playa Zicatela. From early morning until after the sun goes down, surfers head out to catch the big waves. We were staying at Zicatela right across from the beach and could see the water from our balcony. I loved watching the surfers paddle out, catch a wave, and do tricks. I tried at San Agustinillo beach, next to Zipolite, Oaxaca, and I almost died, my family stop filming because everybody thoght I was gonna die, please, never do that if you dont know how to. By the way, such a great vid, thanks! (by the way, Zipolite means Beach of the death ones, I realized why they named it that way)

Thanks, Raul! Your taxi driver definitely knew his stuff! I had no idea Puerto Escondido was such a surf destination until I got there and saw why. Not a good place to learn haha! I know what you mean about never trying despite living near it - I lived in Australia for about a year and a half and figured I'd become a surfer and never even took a lesson! The North Shore would be crazy to see - I can't imagine how huge those waves are!

Never have tried, despite two years living in Hawaii and plenty of excursions to the North Shore. Or perhaps the North Shore is the reason I never tried. I recall on a cab ride in Mexico City the driver telling me to skip Cabo and Cancun, and shoot straight to Puerto Escondido - he was on to something. Excellent work again, Eileen. I was in Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende like two weeks ago and I think they are two of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. I also visited Zacatecas I hope one day you can visit Zacatecas

Thanks so much! That's so weird about the music - does it work in a different browser maybe?! I didn't go in the water at Zicatela as the waves were so huge but I did at Playa Carrazillio which was glorious. Small beach surrounded by cliffs, tiny waves, warm water!

Was scrolling on Reddit and found one of your videos! I was intrigued to say the least. I recommend you visit Jalisco ! Guadalajara to be exact. Very historic city and visit all the churches. There's this church called la luz del mundo who's church looks like some sort of pyramid I recommend you go if you ever get the chance! Cheers :)

Never been Puerto Escondido, but it looks like an amazing beach! I did little surfing back in the day growing up in Panama, but mainly body boarding. Great video and footage!

Thanks! No, I don't know the temperature but I didn't really see people wearing wetsuits so it can't be that cold! Waves were too big for me to swim there ;)

Thanks so much! This was REALLY fun to shoot (aside from the major sunburn I got by being too focused on shooting and forgetting sunscreen - oops haha!). The waves were the biggest I've personally ever seen in person and I just couldn't stop watching the surfers. Glad you enjoyed it! :)
