have you looked at the map? it has nothing to do with geography hawai'i is quite far from Japan or anywhere else for that matter, the japanese are hawai'i's main tourists and the first japanese came in the late 19th century to work at the pineapple canneries and never left since, there are other reasons for there strong presence of japanese but thats to much to write about in a comment that no one probably even cares about ;)

@virmad As a surfer who just came to snowboard the first time some days ago I think it was not that hard to try another board sport, once you have enough balance expertise, thought I guess snowboarding is closer to skateboarding than surfing. By the way, snowboarding is super cool just as surfing!

thanks for the comment. there are waves all year in hawaii but waikiki is best from may to september. and if your lucky, you can get swells in october, just like the one we're having now. cheers from hawaii!!!
