But on Monday, May 13, 2019, it quickly became clear that contest director Mark Mathews' decision to relocate to Tasmania's infamous Shipstern Bluff was a brilliant call. Among the surfers on hand for the competition was 3-time World Champion Mick Fanning, along with Shipstern Bluff legends Mark Mathews, James and Tyler Hollmer-Cross, Mikey Brennan, and more. In the end, Hawaiian Nathan Florence took the 2019 Red Bull Cape Fear crown over Hollmer-Cross, Brennan, Laurie Towner, and Justen “Jughead” Allport. You know what as a Aussie that was the most boring surf contest ever even worse than some Bells Beach contests that should have been moved to Johannas but internationals refused to participate in the solid 12ft surf that was 8ft bigger than Bells.
Now these Locals wouldn't even bother surfing Shippies in such tiny shitty conditions when Tassie has heaps other spots that would have been working.

Now I bet you a thousand Dollars that this has been done on purpose as far as tiny swell AS I SAID THOUSAND BUCKS that if SHIPSTERNS HIT 30ft WITH 45ft FACES FULLY MUTATED NONE OF THE INTERNATI0NAL BLOW INS WOULD HAVE TAKEN OFF OR TOWED IN AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A AUSSIE ONLY CONTEST.
SO IF THAT'S WHAT MUST BE DONE TO SHOWCASE SHIPPIES THEN DO IT AS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE SEEN THIS PLACE NOW THINK ITS A WEAK WAVE...

Imagine if the surf was consistently like that 10 point ride & even bigger. And the sets were 10 minutes apart. Meaning, hardly no waiting for more waves to come. I wonder if they would’ve gave the paddlers 1 or 2 extra points trying to get into thing & making it in & out giving it a 12 point ride?

good points @David Hunt and @David S ... There are few places more difficult to run a comp than Shippies. You never know what the ocean's gonna throw at you, especially there, but we still got plenty of bombs. Let's hope things line up for next year... The Right is a solid suggestion!
