Learn to balance with your breath before on a board. Surf closest to the shore first, and make the most of that, before you explore some more

The pocket is the part of the wave closest to the white water. It is usually the steepest part and has the most power! However sometimes wave can be very flat, and not really have a typical pocket type section. Does this help?

im 250 lbs 5'11.5 I have a bit of difficulty standing on/going from laying down to standing on weaker small waves Ive surfed only 4-5 waves so far in north Carolina

Skimboarders build tons of speedy by hopping the nose. It doesn't work on highly rockered boards.

Two things with this video, the waves really aren't that small, and the section about patience, I saw two sections worth doing a top turn or little air off of. Think if you come and surf Florida, you will see really good small wind swell surfing versus waist to shoulder high groundswell surfing.

Those who comment "ye those wav are smol lolz", we don't care about your ego : let's be honest, waves can actually be smaller than that and it's still ok to have fun on it (look at what old school longboarders can ride... ). There's nothing to be ashamed of. And you're not supposed to be proud of only being able to surf overhead waves.
A surf instructor I met used to say "there are no crappy conditions but there are crappy surfers".
But I think the video is more about surfing quite small waves with very little power : it's not very interesting to make a video about waves so small you can barely even do a top turn on.
And they give great advice in that sense !

Baldheadedchimp rrrriiiiigggghhhhttttt. Those waves were easily 3-4’ @10+ seconds. There was wind on it but definitely not a windswell.

Scott rock while some boards do help, remember that at the end of the day it’s just a plank of foam and fiberglass and it’s really all up to you

Kai Lee Longest board you can manage. Be stylish, don’t try to do too many tricky turns and radical moves. Learn to walk the board and subtly shift your weight to engineer turns. Good luck.
