i see them ducking under right at the last second

That's surfing the north shore, if the waves are good in Hawaii there's an excellent chance for crowds. I surfed in a crowd on a clear full moon night @Threes. (Waikiki) Unforgettable. 6-7 foot glass, but with the full moon's light bouncing off the bottom of the wave made the curl look like it was about to break twenty yards ahead of you. Magical.

Man I would love to learn more about how the photographers learn to stay out of the way of the surfers and manage to take shots. Also, they would have to know how the waves work etc pretty intimately too- if anyone has any good resources they can point me to I would love to see it!!! Thanks!!!

the camera men just duck under the wave when the surfer comes through. the fins only go down a few inches so they just dive before the rider gets there

Call me different but I'd much prefer the natural speed and audio, even if it is a bit washed out with the drone sounds. I don't want to feel like I'm at a movie I want to feel like I'm there. Seeing the spit fly, hearing the lip smack, and sensing the power of the wave in question...
