Surfing Santa Cruz can be Dangerous. Some inexperienced surfers got caught by a set of big waves while surfing at Pleasure Point. When surfing waves of this size it is important that you learn how to duck dive or turtle your surfboard to get through such powerful surf and not get pushed back towards the shore. http://www.paultopp.com To watch more Santa Cruz Surfing Videos follow this link to my Play list of Santa Cruz Surf Vids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxbrT0QkDW4&list=PLmGn4FJQPuariEzM-ewC7snoH_qeFn1Gb Follow me on Instagram http://www.instagram.com/toppshots And Please Subscribe & Like

Did the guy doing the Eskimo roll near the end of the vid make it through? I always wondered if you were using a longer board and couldn't duck, can you roll instead?

Boris Chang Ya you can just Eskimo roll with a larger board. A good tip is to kick the tail of the board up when you're upside down, that will force the nose down even further under the wave. Think of it like a upside down duck dive!

Edit: scrolling through the comments section I see that they were beginners. I didn't realize that at first.
If they made a surf movie or video of how much time you spend paddling vs. surfing in an average session it would be pretty damn boring - like this video..
Getting stuck inside blows, sometimes you gotta wait it out.
Shout out to Seabright!
if you are getting worked and your arms/shoulders are burning and you are out of gas, then pick a spot/day with smaller waves - because you only get out far enough to just get in the way
. I've lived and surfed in Santa Cruz 40 years now and many times out there I'm under the water more than on top of it and my board is doing better without me . Ha!
Bunch of assholes in the water in SC. Makes San Diego (Cliffs & Windansea) look chilly chill. But they can be pricks too. Territorial bitches.
Essential.
