You can hit the same ramp and draw the same line on a skateboard a 100 times a day, no two waves are the same. A skateboard is tiny compared to a surfboard and has concaves for flips and airs. Thats where the similiarities tend to end. At the end of the day properly surfing a wave is nothing like properly skating a ramp or the streets, nor is it anything like properly snowboarding be that free riding or hitting ramps. I don't mean just standing up and going straight.

@redsoxpatsceltics I didn't mean to take away from the difficulty level of this trick. I actually think its very cool and should be more stuff like this in surfing. I hear that these sort of tricks don't even get counted in a surfing comp..now that's lame! (not that I watch surfing.So cant really back this up) Surfing has only a handful of tricks since its inception and surfers should be innovating more technical moves..or maybe the sport doesn't lend itself to more than a cutbacks and floaters!

The Famous Castleton Brothers (Endless Summer Surfing) were doing this in the 70's & 80's Dale Castleton & brothers taught me & dozens others to do this trick among other slide & flip tricks back in 1983!! From So Cal to South East Asia; Taiwan; Philipines etc... Castleton Bros taught a many young surfers the tricks!

I used to do a kickflip on a skimboard on the creek near the shore, over a log, but this is insane to do in moving deep water, as well as the weight of a surfboard. Some people are nit-picking it but, c'mon, he killed it.

@pathtek4 Skateboarding wasn't stolen from surfing...it's not like surfing lost anything. It evolved from surfing. I actually think that they became two very different sports quite quickly, and I'm not convinced that kickflips even look that good on a surfboard (although they must be incredibly hard) - to me surfing is more about form and power than tricks. It's not like snowboarding, which has been riding skateboarding's coat tails for a long time now.

there is a big skatepark near where I live, its quite famous actually, in london, on the southbank. I go past it all the time, and there are always skaters there doing tricks. Never, ever, ever have I seen a trick pulled off. Best thing I saw there was a guy, must have been 50 or 60 just rocked up with a bass guitar and an amp and knocked out some wicked slap bass :)

Definitely sic, but the question is whether he used the actual vert part of the wave to boost, and then kick flip. It looks more like a mid-faced chop hop to kick flip IMO.
