Thank you for the video! I just had my right hip replaced 10 weeks ago and was wondering if I would be able to surf again. I'm goofy foot, so my left leg is the one that needs to bend with this technique. I think that will work! I may not be able to ride a short board like I used to, so I bought a 7'3" hybrid for more stability and ease of paddling.

Thank you so much! I'm a 13 year old just starting out surfing and I always relied on my knees to stand up, but as soon as I stood up from my knees I slipped off! This method is awesome and has helped me to get a quicker pop up to get more of the wave. Great video!

A popup is done with the knees and the arms. It is one fluid motion, prone to standing with both feet landing on the board at the same time. There is no time to do this chicken wing crab walk.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the video it helped me a lot because I was transferring from a fun shape to a really nice Ripper board and it was really confusing on how to pop up on it and get really used to it so I think this video helped me a lot to get used to that board a lot quicker

I retired this year at 59 and bought a longboard, being older and less flexible the pop up just happing for me. So I eat to many waves. I'm looking forward to trying the chicken wing pop up, I'll let you know.

I'm a teen girl in Montana and went surfing for the first time last summer... I used my knees to get up almost every time but it felt more for balance than having a weak upper body... how do you keep your balance when getting up?

Tori Peterson make sure to find the centre of your board before popping up and when you do to have your knees bent and torso and arms pointing towards the direction youre headed.

I have tried it but my knee keeps touching the water and that makes it hard to pop-up.. I'm very tall so when I surf on a shortboard and I try this it immediately touches the water. Am I doing anything wrong, are there any tips to avoid touching the water with your knee?

Interesting tutorial! This is something that normally goes by so fast you don't even see it, but watching it step by step in slow motion, it all makes sense.

what if i can't put my front foot in place with my hands in the board? It is like my arms are shorter than my legs from the bottom to the knee, i can do It in the ground slowly
(By now i'm puting It as i can and then i move It fast , but i always lose some speed)

Good job demonstrating Atua. I had a guy in SoCal tell me to knee board then pop up so I would get the timing down on my new shorter board which was not the way I was taught to surf.

LOL, I am just like everyone else, I love the popup videos. When he tried to teach Alec how to popup, he said "Just lift you chest not you hips." The first time Alec tried, he just lifted his hips and pushed back on to two knees.
