I know its so cliche, but I really wish I could have been there for the 60's. Just being a hippie and listening to The Beach Boys, Beatles, Kinks, Love, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who, etc. Would have been great. There's still great times to be had and great music for my generation, but there's something about the old days that feels so innocent.

Imagine a sugar sand beach.... Farther west than Hawaii. The girl was 16. Long blond hair from Kentucky .Far too naive. I went to the beach with her but was wise enough to not get so deeply involved that it hurt me or her. Age difference and maturity difference was too great an issue to span. She was a vulnerable drop dead gorgeous kid but.....I never did anything i’ regret but she was killed a year after I left in a motorcycle accident.

Whether they surfed or not, the Beach boys were the essence of the great surfing era that took over the world.....well, certainly in the U.S. and Australia---that's where all the surfing music that I heard came from. How about Jan and Dean, the Surfaris, the Deltones and a bunch more that I can't remember. In Aus., guys used to bleach their hair with peroxide or lemon juice just to be cool surfer dudes. Of course there was "The Endless Summer" movie. Sigh........

crackin' track from the beach boys 63/64 these guys were their own competition ! every guy wanted to be a surfer boy ! and these guys put newquay in cornwall on the map ! here in the UK ! back then you could drive your car right down onto the beach and people had portable record decks wired-up to their car batteries playing their 45s the sailors arms was a tiny fishermans local but when surfin' came along it quadrupled in size newquay was a boom town ! and surfin' was borne ! what a wipeout !

Seems like nowadays if you so much as accidentally glance at some chick who is basically screaming for attention in their very revealing bikini, you'll automatically be accused of rape. I also don't live by the ocean, I have the lake. If I lived by the ocean, I'd be more of a beach guy.

This is about my favorite song of all time, I came to this conclusion in about 2001 when I saw the Brian Wilson tribute concert and Paul Simon covered it, and put his own spin on it, and it blew my mind ( Brian said of that night that Paul Simon blew his mind too) and made me realize how versatile the melody is.....and u might already know this,,but Brian based the melody for this song on " when you wish apron a star" , a perfect example of the old adage " talent borrows-~~genius steals"-~~ I had to mention that, because it's just another reason of many why this is one of my fav songs of all time:)
